I was doing some jumping the other day...

and I noticed that my front right rim is taken a pretty good beating. I haven't recked- just landed hard on some big jumps.

Is it normal for the stock rims to bend like this? Anyone else have these problems?

 

I don't get sick air like some of the crazy people around here[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img], but the stockers are holding up pretty good. If you are bending stockers, then you really need a top-of-the-line kind of rim, with reinforcing rings, etc.

 

without running beadlocks or reinforced wheels, the stock Honda rims are as good as they come. If you're bending stock Honda rims, Douglas wheels wouldn't last you an hour.

i have gotten some good air on my 300ex with stock rims, and a few 'friendly' races through the woods.

I have put 1 dent in the front rim..thats not bad..its small too!

get some reinforcing ring rims and have at it

 

Stock Honda wheels are as good as it gets without going to Reinforced or Beadlocks.

If you're bending them you're not running enough tire pressure.

Depending on how high you're really getting and how hard you're landing, stock tires require at LEAST 6psi if not more - you can typically get away with a little less pressure with stiffer sidewalled aftermarket tires, again, depending on what you're actually doing (If I'm out jumping really hard with aftermarket tires and stock wheels, I run about 9psi - I've wasted wheels at 8)...

 

By "hard landings" you must mean something fierce. My 300EX has had some tough landings and taken a couple of spills and my rims hardly have a scratch. Get some beadlock or reinforced rims, they should hold up.

There's also a video of me jumping in the sand here. It's just over a 5md download. This video was when I first got my EX & my first trip to the sand. It was bone stock except for the handlebar crossbar, rear Holeshots (yes, holeshots in the sand), and 250R rear wheels.

 

...86atc250r- are you serious? the Honda manual says max pressure 5 psi. and I make sure they are at 5psi every time I ride.

Also- I'm 6'2 240lbs- and I imagine my weight has something to do with hard landings. I'm bottoming out quite a bit- even with the springs maxxed out to the stiffest setting.

So you think 9 psi won't hurt my tires? Will it make the tire more prone to popping?

-will the .190 douglas rims be just as easy to bend as the stockers? When you refer to reinforced rims... specifically what manufacture sells them- and what is the model number?

i have a 400ex too and one of my back rims are bent i think they suck.... im lookin for a new set of rims too but im not sure what too get either but im lookin

Heck yes I'm serious.

I'm 6'0" and weigh between 175 and 190 usually. New suspension and reinforced wheels may be in order for you.

No it won't hurt your tires, however, it will give you a very rough ride. You likely won't want to run that pressure for trail riding, but if you're going to be out jumping, you're going to have to.

At 5 psi and 240 lbs it's no surprise you're smoking the wheels.

Yes, the .190's will be as easy to bend as the stockers.

OMF makes reinforced wheels. They take a .190 and weld rings to the bead area. From OMF they are almost $100 each.
