I used to roadrace cycles and did all my own jetting work on the bikes as well as my quad. I never thought to do what you just posted, but it makes all the sense in the world. Turbulance through the throat of the carberator is a big deal and anything to clean that up will be extra power.
Lots of people spend hundreds of dollars on port work, aftermarket carbs, and fancy air filters with velocity stacks built in, to do the same thing.
One thing to consider, not super critical, but if your on the lean side with the jetting, more air could lean it out more. I will have to give that a try, at least for the summer months. It souldn't be a big job.

I just did that to my X today and all I can say is WOW! That really works. It seems to hit harder in the mid range and pull harder too. Thanks for the great tip. All I did to get to the carb is take the front plastic, and tank off. I just unscrewed the 2 bolts holding on the plate. Took me 15min though cause i have to take the bars off since I have one piece race plastic [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
