My thoughts on honda and a big bore:

Honda will not enter the big bore war. Simply because it's a trend, and honda doesn't like to follow trends, and while honda is making the best selling atv...400EX...why should it push to design a big bore just so it can say that it made one. Honda's gonna wait untill 400EX sales make a big enough drop to hurt the company. I can gurantee that honda has already built and tested a big bore engine, and possibly they could be perfecting as we speak. you remember how long it took them to come out with the 40EX, the big bore...if it's a go...will take just as long, but you can bet that when it gets here, it will be bullet proof as all other honda quads are!

I look for honda to try to put a tuned down version of the CRF450 motor in a 400EX frame with maby a 1+ or 2+ swingarm to get the power to the groung, and possibly reverse...which is a controversial topic because it's a sport bike, but also a great trail machine, and many people are complaning that it needs reverse, but a sport bike have reverse?? you decide.

the problem with big bores is getting the power to the ground, that's why i look for honda to use the 400ex frame, and just put a longer swingarm on.

i personally would like to see the CRF 450EX...with reverse, sure there would be a drop in Hp due to having to turn 2 wheels instead of one, but it would still be one mean bike!!

Sorry about rambiling on so much...just my .o2....you asked

I agree, i think honda will come out with something under a 600cc fourstroke. Like cannondale showed us, displacment and heavy weight are NOT everything. Smallbore " " 440's put out plenty of power and are very light..hopefully honda picks up on this and comes out with 1 kick *** machine!

They followed the trend with the Rubicon why not the High Performance market. I think they will come out with the 650 but then again Honda does good with less. So they may put in a 450 motor. Or they may just retune the 400 motor. You never know with Honda.

I still say the 929RR engine in the 400EX Frame with different plastic and a +12 swingarm would be perfect. Now thats big bore.

WHY wouldn't Honda enter the big bore war. They know that that is what we want, and they know we want it bad. A 550cc (Maybe 5 valve) motor in a 400EX with +1 a-arms WOULD be untouchable. My .02 is that sure honda has the best elling high perf quad in the 400EX, but if a big bore could attract even more buyers, then they make even more money and we are all happy. That is just what I think. I am not saying they will, and the probably won't for a while, but it sure would be great!

Read my thread at EXRiders.com. I'm the one who started it over there so it's straight from the horses mouth.

Honda better not come out with a big slug 650. It had better be a lightweight but highpowered quad (ie: CR450 motor). I swear I am never buying another Honda if they make a Raptor or DS copy.
