I'm wanting to purchase another quad, currently I have a '91 Mojave, its nice and still runs great but I think I want something new (the wife can play with this one), or at least new to me. I've been seriously looking at an LT250R and also at the 400EX. The main concern I have with the 400EX is the fact that its air cooled and I live in Yuma AZ (about 45 mins south east of Glamis). Its over 100 all summer here (which lasts about 5 months here), often over 110. I will be spending quite a bit of time at the dunes, how do you think it will hold up? I havent had a problem with the Mojave but its water cooled too. I dont care whether its a two stroke or a four stroke. I dont really care for the Banshee, the Warrior is a bit smaller than I want, and the Raptor is bigger than I really need.

I have read that the Honda has a better suspension which is a bigger + for me than more power. The 250 has been "enough" so far, obviously I could use more but it doesnt feel underpower either (I'm only 5'11" and 165#). So what do you think?

I can relate to what you feel in Yuma. I live in Safford and it is usually above 110. I've been to Yuma numerous times and I understand Yuma just feels hotter. However, there are many 400s in my area and ride in this weather and never seen anyone of them overheat. If I were you I would go with a 400 EX cause air cooled or not they just don't overheat.

110 is 110 to me, hell, anything over 80 is hot, lol! The only other concern I have is the power, the LT250 seems to have as much if not more power and their is a big aftermarket for it as well. I hate buying new toys, its always a pain.

I've been through a Florida summer (Ft. Walton) and I'll take it over Yuma's summer anyday. I dont mind the humidity as much as the high a$$ temps.

I spent every weekend I could this winter at Gordon's Well and Buttercup. I was running at high RPMs with my 14T sprocket all of the weekends there. The engine did get damn hot, but I never had an issue. I do run Mobil1 15W50, and I think that helps my oil lifetime at those constant high temps.

Now whether you will be happy or not...

You guys want to cool off? Come up here for a little while. It got down to 53 during the day last week, and the high today was 78. Anything over 70 is plenty warm enough for me. Stay cool

Wow, thats a big concern! If its getting hot during the winter that scares me, it rairly is above the 80's on the hottest days in the winter, usually in the 70's. Sheesh, it just doesnt get any easier does it

The 400EX is not just air cooled it also has an oil cooler. The Lt250R is liquid-cooled I think and is also a 2-stroke.
