There are two keys to getting the cylinder loose in my experience. The first - and most important is to make sure you have ALL the bolts out - especially the two small 8mm bolts located on the outside of the cylinder. I have forgotten those stupid things before and nearly destroyed my cylinder trying to get it apart.
Once you're sure that you have all of the bolts removed, it all comes down to brute force and blunt trauma. I usually take a rubber mallet and whack it repeatedly in an upward direction until the gasket breaks free. Be careful, but it can sometimes take a surprising amount of force.
