question for 300EX owners.........
#1
Hi.
I'm on the market now for a new sport quad; and I've narrowed it down between the 300EX and the Yamaha Warrior. Since I'm an aggressive rider (being an avid snowmobiler), I'm leaning toward the EX because of its lighter, sleeker; more athletic looks and handling. It's also $500 cheaper. What I'm most concerned about is the power and speed difference. I know the Warrior's 50 cc's bigger; so I'm asking all you Honda guys who ride (or have ridden) with Warriors to let me know just how much faster a Warrior really is (if it is indeed faster at all).
Thanks.

i own a 2000 300ex. i ride with several other friends with 300ex's and several warriors. we ride mostly in the woods and there is where i believe the 300ex is ahead. It is light and easy to throw around and has decent power stock and there are many aftermarket hop-ups. the warrior is a decent machine but doesn't wheelie as well or slide as well. for open space full throttle the warrior would be good. everywhere else i like the 300ex.
if you are looking for top speed( a polaris sportsman will outrun my 300ex on fire road) go for something else. BUT...through the woods 2nd,3rd,4th gear will keep you ahead, or close with equally skilled riders.

A2000,
I do not own either machine, but I have two close friends that I ride with every weekend that do and I have ridden them both.
Here is my UNbiased opinion...
Speed Wise...If you are going to be riding strictly on dirt roads, open trails, or in fields the Warrior IS faster. I have no reason to lie. It in no way really "smokes" the 300ex, but it is faster by a few MPH. I don't know how much you would gain if you invested that extra $500 into a few mods for the EX...it might be something to think about.
If you are going be be riding trails also (tight trails) you will probably then find that neither machine is faster than the other, it comes down more to rider skill. The 300ex felt like it handled better to me, but I have heard people say that they like the Warrior better as well. I guess the only way to tell is to actually ride them both if you could.
On a side note after checking out the 300ex and the Warrior, I'd have to say that the 300ex looks like it is built better. It is lighter, and like I said, "I" think it handles better.
I also agree with dirtclog, that the 300ex does wheelie better. The Warrior seems s little long. Whether that's a plus for you I don't know. However, to me it didn't feel like the 300ex slid better than the Warrior. I think the Warrior felt better in a power slide then the 300ex did. However, it seemed like the 300ex could handle a lot of the corners as fast as the Warrior did without having to power slide it.
I didn't get the chance to jump either quad, but I wish that I did. If I was to guess, I would guess that the 300ex feels better in the air, but like I said, I never tried them. Just taking a shot in the dark.
Now, if I was to buy one of these quads with my current knowledge I would take the Warrior simply because it is faster stock. I ride A LOT of roads and the more speed the better (but that is just for my situation). However, if you could take that extra $500 and make the 300ex just as fast I would probably take the 300ex.
The engineering of the quad just seemed far superior to the Warriors design. Unfortunatly I did not strip them down and compare.
I'm sure that you will be happy regardless what you choose. Hope this helped some.

If you like the top speed of the warrior but dont want to pay the extra $500 and loose looks , "wheeliability" , handling and reliability , there is a simple and CHEEP fix for that buy a 14 tooth front sprocket ! it only cost me $12 my 250X "same as 300ex" will hit 60mph now and i lost little to no bottom end power . so you be the judge pay $12 and get a warriors top speed or pay $500 more and get lower handling jumping suspension and looks .

the warrior will beat the 300ex top end... but thats it. the 300ex will beat it in acceleration, handling, trails, and jumping.
not to mention its a lot more reliable. my friend has a warrior, its in the shop occasionally, and my 300ex is never in the shop sept for if i do something to it hehe, same with my other friends.

oh yeah and as it was said several times up there in other posts the 300ex is about 500 cheeper. with that money u can get yourself a nice ehxuast pipe and maybe a powerup kit, u might have to throw in another 100 or so, but then you'll smoke a warrior no doubt and have a really bitchin' 300ex :}
