Foreman Back Firing!?!??
#1
I got a 1995 Foreman 400 that needs a new muffler but is still drivable. The machines in great shape except the muffler. WHen i deaccelerate the usual pop pop pop pop goes and SOMETIMES this is followed by a bang! Is this hurting my engine? What is causing this? How can i Fix it?
Thanks a bundle!

We had the same problem and it seems only to happen with the 95 Foremans and some 96's. As near as we can figure Honda put a vaccum line to the carb that seems to slow down the the closing of the throttle. We think this is for emissions (burn off all left over fuel in the system before the throttle closes). It was fixed on later years. Anyway even if the preceeding isn't true, if you restrict or block of this vaccum line the backfiring will go away and we haven't had any adverse effects in doing this.

I have a '97 Foreman and had the same problem. When I was doing a long high speed run then came off the throttle, it would give me a backfire out the exhaust. You need to make the idle mixture a bit richer. Start with about 1/8 turn.
