Will a 250r durablue +4 axle fit on a 400ex if you put the 250r hubs on the 400ex with the 250r axle and vise versa?
What i am trying to say is the only difference btwn the 400ex adn 250r axle the splines?

I think the rear hubs are interchangeable if I'm not mistaken. But I don't know for sure.

I thought the fronts were only interchangable but I am proven wrong most of the time though.

I tried this a while back. I put a 400EX axle in my 87 250R. The axle fit and the sprockets line up, but the hubs don't fit. You have to use the hubs too. The 250R axle is 1" wider than the 400EX axle.

I didn't want anybody to say I posted mis-information, so I went out and tried it again:

I had better specify the years on these quads, in case there is a diffence. The TRX250R is 1987. The TRX400EX is 1999.

The 1987 TRX250R hubs will physically slide onto the 1999 TRX400EX axle splines, but it was so loose I could spin the hub on the axle with my bare hands. The 400EX axle spline is smaller in diameter, so it allows the 250R hub to go on.

I tried to put the 400EX hub on the 250R axle and it would not fit onto the spline at all. The hub is smaller in diameter than the 250R Axle spline. I don't think forcing it onto the spline is an option, because it does not even come close enough for the ends of the splines to catch each other.

If it seems as though the hub is fitting on the axle, make sure there is minimal rotary movement between them. You will never keep the nut tight if it is sloppy. It will probably strip out in no time flat.

I posted this topic a few months ago, but I can't find it with the search. I repair computers for a living, it does not mean I know how to use them!

Just have a little side note to add....

The 250R axle itself is wider, but the offset of the 400EX hubs end up making the 400EX axle and hub combo wider, and lighter weight....
