350 X vs. 400 EX

I just bought a 1985 350 X and i want to know the cheapest most effiecent way to make it out run a 400 EX.

Try getting a smaller rear sprocket. But don't worry, you can't beat my 400 so don't even try.

lol..pretty confident for a 400ex owner with a pipe.


do you want to make it beat a 400ex in a drag race, or top end?

I want it to be able to beat it in a drag race. So what do i do to it to make it accelerate quicker.

play with the gearing..find someone with a 400ex that you can drag race with..gearing it down will make it accellerate faster, but top end will suffer..you want to find the combo that will accellerate the fastest, yet not top out too early.

if that still doesn't do it, look into motor mods..pipe, high compression piston/bigger bore, cam, head port, etc.

The only problem with dragging against 400's is keeping the front end down on the 350. Karl

i would have thought your 350X would beat a 400 in a drag race but i guess not...have u raced any 400's yet?

Yeah he has. We race quite often. I always pull out on top end but on bottom he may pull out in front but it all matters on the start. I would still beat him when my machine was stock but I don't have too many mods on it yet. He just wants bragging right over me.

A 350X in good shape should hang within a quad length or 2 for the 1st half of a drag race with a 400. But, by the time you hit fifth on both, and then 6th on the 350X, it will outrun the 400EX (top speed).

I don't think it would take too much engine work to make the 350X keep up and or take a stock 400...

I thought a 350X might take a 400EX. Its really close to the same engine isn't it? I mean they are close bore and stroke and both 4-valve head with dual head pipes.
