How important is it to adjust the vavles. I notice on my fourman it makes a little tickying sound after I rev in out to get out of a mud hole.

Unless you're having problems with the engine starting, I wouldn't worry about it. Valves will often get a little noisy once they heat up and the tapping clearances begin to expand. You might even rest at ease knowing the valves might be a little loose since they will not burn around their seats like those that are too tight.

I check mine no more than once a year.

as long as it starts up fine...cold starts that is..., and doesn't cut out once you get goin, the valves don't need adjusted.

it could also be low oil level causing the valves to make that "tapping" sound that your hearing.

you only need to check valves on a stock engine once a year at the most.

I would say only adjusted valves once a year is not enough. Performance, reliability, and the noise of the valves are all reasons why they should be adjusted. Most people think it is hard to adjust them so they just dont do it. On most quads it shouldn't take longer than an hour or two to do.

I never have adjusted the valves on my Recon and it has 330 hrs on it. It always starts and runs fine. Chet

How do I adjust the idle so it is a little higher and more smooth. I know you can raise the slide but do you also have to adjust the Fuel jet or piolet jet or something like that. Also I had a older bike that I adjusted the valves on and it starts o.k but the tapping sound is really loud. Valve clearents to loose?
