400ex tires??
#1
I have a 400ex and I'm in the market for some new tires and wheels. I've had Fast Trekkers, Holeshot XCT's, and shredders on my last quad but wasn't real happy with any of them aside from the Trekkers. I ride pretty aggressively in dirt, sand, and mud. Do a lot of hill climbing, jumping, and mud slinging on my friends when i catch em off guard. My concerns are weight, and front tires that grab. My buddy has the Bandit XC's, which seem to work pretty good, but i think they're rather heavy. Does anybody have any suggestions??

I have a 2000 400ex. Did you like the stock tires? They are supposedly the lightest. The Kenda Dominator is also a very light tire. My best friend has a 300ex and he got Razrs all the way around. He loves them. Look at the front tread and you will see why. The backs work well too. I had shredders on the rear of my 99 Warrior and I liked them. They seemed to wear out fast though. I kept the front stockers, though. You might want to look at stock front tires off of a Banshee or Warrior also, you never know what you will like. The problem with stockers is that they are more expensive.

MadMark,
The guys I ride with swear by the Bandit Fronts. There is some debate as to whether you would pick the Bandit Rears, or perhaps Maxis Sur Tracks.
The Maxis are almost like paddles in the sand and reverse them, you get great mud clearing.
I know that motorcycletires.com lists the weights of different tires. Perhaps you can find more information on weight there.

I appreciate your advice. A friend of mine has the bandit fronts and i do like them alot, but i felt the same about the rears. Now I know I'm going with the bandit fronts, but i think i'll get the regular belt instead of the kevlar because they're 4 lbs. heavier per tire. I still don't know which rears to get. I'm leaning towards the Fast Trekker 22". Anyone advice on the rears, sizes and weights?

If you go to the 22 inch rears, most guys are dropping one tooth on the front sprocket to make up the difference in power loss...you'll notice it on the hillclimbs. An excellant friend of mine just blew out 2 out of 3 stock Ohtsu's in the sidewall and was forced into some new shoes. After endless nights reading magazines, he ordered the Razr's all the way around. What a tire! They self clean very well, grip as well as the stockers, and rip out sod like there's no tomorrow! They came in the 20 inch for the rear, too. His only complaint is that she won't slide as easy cause of the wider pattern but a little throttle fixes that problem to get it around.
