my friend let me borrow his xr500 dirt bike for about 6 months. my question is, i just bought some non-synthetic castrol GTX motor oil. i was wondering if this would make my clutch slip. if it does, how do you stop it from slipping. will the slippage go away as soon as i put some different oil in it that is made for the motorcycle. thank you for any answeres.

Non synthetic is what you're supposed to run in motorcycles unless for some odd reason a particular model isn't supposed to have it. I run synthetic in all my stuff, heck evein the the CR as gear oil and I have NEVER and I mean NEVER had a problem with clutch slippage. You usualy get clutch slippage under extreme loads or temperature. If it slips all the time I'd spend the $50 to get heavy duity spings and plates.

Is it the change clutch slipping or the main clutch? The change clutch should have a simple adjustment somewhere, ( when adjusted right is allows the clutch to slip some when quickly power shifted, but not to rev way up. ) The clutch activity I have experience remained pretty constant within the same viscosity oils(sythetic or standard).

The biggie thing with wet clutches is to avoid slippery 'solid' additives, including teflon, moly, graphite engine saver tablets ect. True liquids like prolong probably wouldn't hurt a thing though.

it is an automotive oil used for cars. it says it has "advanced anti-wear additives to help extend engine life." it is a 20W-50 oil. are the anti wear additives fricition modifiers? if so will it make my clutch slip? i have not put the oil in yet. i just wanted to make sure i'm not goint to mess something up. the oil container also says "CASTROL GTX is engineered to provide maxium protection against BOTH Viscosity and Thermal breakdown." I think it will handle the heat the motor puts out. like i said before, the only thing i am worried about is whether or not the clutch will slip.... thanks again.
