How much power are some of you getting out of your modded 400s? I have a 250r with an LRD 265 kit which I figure to be making 40+hp. I know that with the BIG money CT 440 kits they are getting 45 or so HP from the 400, but I dont want a 440. Can you get that much out of a 426 or 416? I like fast revving engines, so I dont want a 440 as they dont rev quick enough. I rode one last week and it as pretty fast, It was a WB kit with cam and stuff, but my R still has way more pwer than that.
So, my question basically is, can you get 40+ hp from a 400ex without going to a 440?

Thanks

Yes. A guy I race with claims to get 66HP out of his. He won't come out and say what he has in it, but, he has Rath Racing stickers on it.. So I'm assuming it has some of their mods. His name is RJ Slayton, and you can see his quad at MXQuads.com Click on HOT HONDAS, and his is like the 3rd one down. All those quads are from around here. His is number 70.

The link doesnt work, at least on my computer.

I think that guy is pullin your leg! Even the FST 500cc kit doesnt make that kind power. I dont want to go over 440, which to get 60hp out of one it would have to be way over that!

A stock EX has 28, and with a pipe, you can easily bump it up to 33. That's only 33 more HP! Anywayz, sorry bout the screwed up link. The guy's not lying though. I might have mis-quoted his HP, but he's not lying. His EX is SWEET. Here is some pics of it though RJ Slayton

He's pulling your leg, not even pro racers are getting 66 HP out of their 400ex why do you think everyone is still racing 15 year old machines.

I think that you may be able to get 66hp out of a 400, but it damn sure wouldnt be a 400, it wouldnt even be near that. However, if he doesnt have a radiator on it, I think it would get way to hot for 66hp.

It could be done on a drag bike but on a race/rec bike never, it would be a time bomb. If you want globs of HP, a heavy shot Of NOS will do it but the engie wouldn't last too long, or your could bore and stroke and cam the engine to the moon, you have about 55-60 HP for about two or three rides if that. I've been there and done that. If you want monster power you have to go with a two-stroke or one of the big bore machine, you just have so much more space to work with.

Like they said, it's just to much hp out of a 400ex. You'd NEED liquid cooling. And fromt he pictures, it does not have it. It is a nice 400ex, but anywhere above 50hp sounds unreal with just an "air cooled" engin. By the way the 440ex revs as fast as the 416 or any other kit lower then it. I'v ridden both, and my 440 reves just as fast as them if not faster.
