axle

The 250EX axle is wider than the Recons by one inch. You want to keep the axle you have. Other than purchasing a new machine your going to have to learn how to hang out in the wind when you go around corners. KKKILLER400EX said to flip the rims I know you can do this on some Yamaha models but I am not sure about the 250ex. Chet

I dont think you can flip your rims because your rims have metal inserts in them that are angled inward , you have taperd nuts , lol and if you put your rims on backwards then they wont be on completely strait because the holes are bigger then the studs < thats why you have the taperd nuts. Also if you flip the rear rims you will make it even narrower. PS it is alot harder on the bearings to flip the front rims.
An alternative is to buy wheel spacers for the front and rear. This will widen it out 2-4 inches depending on what spacers you buy. Durablue and highlifter make spacers, and many others , good luck Zeebo

i went riding this weekend and was going to try lean as far over as i could and o as fast as i could around this curve, it was real tacky so there was no such thing as sliding and it come up on 2 wheels. that is scary going 40 mph on 2 wheels, anyway ive decided to get wheel spacers. i do alot of jumping ,nothing over 5 feet. will those wheel spacers crack.

The 250EX bolt pattern is the same as the bigger honda sport machines. You could get a set of axle extenders. I have thought about putting a set on my wifes 250EX. She seems to be okay with the stock width tho. It seems tippy to me, and she even did a get off on the beach when she was doing donuts. She don't want me to start pounding out the studs so I can put the extenders on though.
To widen the front, you would have to re-drill the air valve and move it to the other side, and weld up the old one. Also, you would have to put the lug nut chamfers on the other side of the rim too.
Beware, if you ride on the extreme side of crazy, axle extenders might be a weak link in your drivetrain. I have used them, and I bent an axle when I clipped a 2" poplar tree.
