It all depends on what kit you are doing. There are 416 kits out there that will blow away a 440 setup. Reason: the 416 kit includes many more things than just the big bore. The kit will also come with a wild cam, carb, head porting, etc. But with 2 evenly modded bikes, one just with the 440 and one with the 416, the 440 should be faster. But remember your only dealing with 20 more ccs on the 440, which isn't much.

IMS, white brothers, and i think its powroll all produce the same kit. They are the only ones that you can get the kit with a JE piston. They have an exclusive agreement with JE so JE can't sell that size piston to anyone else. This equals us getting raped for it. All 3 companies charge $191 for a new piston and ring set for the 440! But Ive seen the Wiseco 440 piston and rings for as low as $95. In my opinion we should boycott the companies that have created this triopoly and just build the kits ourselves using a wiseco piston or order from the companies using the wiseco.
