i am wanting to buy skids and exhaust for my 2001 400ex i was wondering if the brand of the skids made a difference and also where the cheapest place to get them would be
also i was planning on getting exhaust and i was wondering if for like very small mods i should go w/complete or just slip on exhaust also i was wondering if there was a difference between dmc and duncan double barrel exhaust also i was wondering about the x-4 system i was wondering if it would be a good buy and how much would it cost

My only advice is to stay far, far away from the DG swingarm skidplate. I have 3 of them (2 still on 400exs, 1 was on a Raptor for a month) that all have broken welds. JUNK! JUNK! JUNK!
Get an aluminum one from RAD Manufacturing. No welds. All formed aluminum. The other option is a stainless steel one from Pro-Tec (now have one on the Raptor).
Just took the airbox lid off, rejetted with a K&N Stage 2 kit, and went to 14/39 gearing on my girlfriend's 400ex. It was a big improvement over stock but definitely not the same as having a slip-on or full system. Really inexpensive improvements for the gain. Planning to get an exhaust for it next. Have to figure something out with the airbox now. Running the airbox lid off on the Raptor is much better since it is still protected from water/mud from the rear tires. Was surprised to see how easy it will be for crap to get flipped into the airbox on the 400ex. I was thinking about leaving the lid on but opening a hole directly out the back of the airbox and then running a tube up towards the rear grab bar.
Hope this helps you some... Stay away from DG on the swingarm skidplate. I haven't had any problems with the a-arm, full skid, or nerf bars.

Go with PRM skids there the cheapest and there way better than dg. I destroyed my swingarm skidaplate and i broke 3 welds on my dg bumper. I hit a tree with my prm bumper and all it did was brake a couple of bolts and put a small dent in it.
The Duncan and DMC pipes are identical.
