Loud ticking noise from my 400ex.

From what I've read and heard I think this is caused by the valves needing to be adjusted.(please correct me if I'm wrong) Has any of you had experience with this and could give me some info. on how to adjust them. Is it difficult? Could I really screw anything major up? How much would it cost at a dealership? Thanks ahead of time for the help. CJ

If you are a perfectionist type of person, it is fairly easy to adjust the valves. You will need feeler gauges that are bent on the tips to make it easier. Check your quad parts store to see if they carry the one made by Motion Pro.
Check out www.exriders.com under the tech section for detailed instructions.
My biggest advice to you is:
1) powerwash your quad after removing the gas tank and front and rear plastic.
2) Go to a marine shop and get some teflon-based grease and grease the front steering stem bushing before putting the front plastic back on.
If you decide to get a shop to do it, it should run about $45 since it takes no more than 1 hour. You might be able to get them to do it for less if you take the plastic and gas tank off yourself. This is not so higly technical process that requires a certified Honda shop to do.
Go for it!
