Questions for 400ex owners.

I absolutly love my 400ex in every way. The only thing I have is is since its such a short bike I have to lay almost over my renthals to keep th front end down on EXTREME inclines. other than that, it really works, even for hauling moose out of the woods.

Zorro,
No sorry, I am not a Honda sales guy. Although I wish that I was. Selling Hondas and Yamahas would be awesome. By the way Zorro, I went on your web site. That's a pretty nice Banshee. I like what you have done to it. It looks like it will haul A$$.

Fourtracker,
Thnaks for the compliments on my shee. I have to say that as far as looks are conderned, I really like the way it is now...just lacking some chrome (for the pipes, especially)...but (believe it or not), it doesn't haul that much more than stock...YET...I got a million performance plans...but can't decide which way to go (std way...coolhead, good pipes, degree key, or the full YPVS way, or keep this one as is, sell it, get newer one and mod i, get a junk to rebuild it...etc)...hehe.
For now, I'm the one to be repaired (2 dislocated shoulders during summer...waiting for what the doc's gonna say on october 3rd!...surgery or everything's fine and (in any way) ride on! ahah

Zorro,
Thanks for the response. Well I don't know what to tell you. Your banshee looks pretty intimidating though. That's surprising that it's not that much faster then a stock Banshee. If your thinking about selling it and upgrading to a new one, I would suggest the FMF Powervalve Banshee just like the one tested in the October 2001 issue of ATV SPORT magazine. That thing is sweet!! If you have not read the article, I suggest that you read it. If I had the money I would enjoy building one of those.

fourtracker,
well, actually, it must be faster than stock (it's modded!)...but I still can get beat in drags...and that's not good. Now that I have my tires/sprocket/jetting combination, I have to try and find people again to race. I did read all the FMF hype, but their kit $ucks big time. It's fast...sure, but it costs over 3 grand!!!! 2000 for the kit + 500 the carbs + 500 the pipes (600 if you choose the SSTs). That's outrageous! For 700$ you can get an "old" RZ engine. It bolts right on (with all electronics), and with Toomeys, this gives you the same hp as the FMF 400...55hp. I talked to a guy racing RZs, his bikes were 75hp, with al the low end powervalves give you. For probably less than a grand. I really think FMF is trying to screw people.
Well, thinking of it, my shee must be fast...but not scary fast...I don't feel my arms becoming 2" longer when I open it up! And there's also the fact that the engine isn't pushed to its limit...I rally don't know what it is, but thre is something "telling" me I need more power. I rode a buddy's YZF...and that was quite better than the shee...so I have a first goal...accelerate as hard, with as good a response as the YZF did. That's gonna take some engine work!! ahah
Anyway, thanks again for my shee's looks...that's gonna change me from my buddy calling it the "bananashee" ahah (that's because he rides a "Craptor"...he has to bash my shee...since he can't be faster ).

As if you haven't had enough good news about the 400 - I have to put in my two cents, too! I also had a Warrior before my 400ex, and the biggest difference I noticed when I started riding my 400 was the way it turned. It's like it's on a rail - it's AMAZING!!! There is obviously more power, and it feels real light and nimble. And I thought my Warrior was fun to jump - jeez! The 400 practically has wings!!!! (Well, I guess it actually does, if you look at the graphics!!) Take all the things you currently like about your Warrior and double or triple them - that's how you will feel about the 400!
The reverse thing was a cinch to get used to - I have never had a problem turning it around/picking it up/ whatever it takes to get going again. I don't even think about reverse anymore.
I don't think you could get a better quad for what you are looking for!

Put it this way; deposit $5 for everytime you need reverse when you purchase your 400ex & at the end of each ride do a total. I bet that before long you'll be able to pay for your 400ex.....Keep us informed. If you were a desert rider, reverse wouldn't be needed, but a woods rider...you'll need it more than once.
