well im not saying the 300ex is a bad trail machine, just that we dont ride with 300ex's that often. alot of 400ex's though. even though they dont have reverse they manage to make it anyways. just takes a little manhandling to turn around sometimes. i think part of the tranny reliabilty issue with the damn raptor has to do with reverse gear. right now i would gladly give up my reverse for a more reliable tranny thats for sure. i only use it when absolutely necessary which aint that often. oh well just my thoughts.

Take it from a guy who has been riding ATC's and ATV's for over 17 years and have had reverse for that last 10 years. GET THE 400EX! I started out riding a 125 Suzuki 3 three wheeler, then a 200S Honda, then a 200X, etc. etc. Once I got a bit older I switched to the quads and obviously had reverse. About a month ago I decided to upgrade again and was torn between the 400EX and the Raptor. I thought it would be hell without reverse but Honda sold me and I bought the 400EX. What a god-like handling quad. The power and speed isnt the best of the best but with some mods it will be better. I took it for a full day of trail and hill riding last Sunday and didnt miss reverse once.
