follow up to problems with my 00' rancher
#1
i've posted awhile back about some problems with my rancher. well i finially got a chance to get it to the shop. first off, last time it was in the shop the angle sensor had gone bad and honda fixed it. well, the tech who fixed it forgot to put the o-ring back on it and almost a year later i had problems again shifting because dirt and crap had gotten into the sensor. htye put on a 0-ring and that's fine now. the oil leak i have i thought was coming from inside the pull start where there is a seal was actually coming from the boot off the engine to the drive shaft. sounds like the seal in the drive shaft casing has failed and all the gear oil leaked up into the front boot. i had sealed up the pull start so water and grit could not get in there but the tech took it all apart when he was checking for a oil leak. he said not to seal up the pull start so it was water tight, it's best to leave alone and just spray like some wd-40 in there to keep things well oiled. also, do not use kerosene to clean your crank case out after you get water in your oil. the tech said it will weaken your clutch plates, so just use the cheapest motor oil you can find and run that through until the crank oil is water free. later -dana

the 589's are incredible. i've gone through some stuff with them that would make your head spin. i did however loose power when it comes to running up hills but most of what i do is very slow and messy. the 589's are fine for trail riding, no noticible power loss in that area. going backwards is better than going forewards sometimes too, especially up steep embankments that would easily tip over any 2x4. i tested the 589's against my brothers blackwaters(foreman 450 4x4) in some nasty sticky mud and he struggled with his 27" 12x12 (all the way around) and i didn't even spin loose in the stuff. as for the sand, i haven't really been in any real sand banks yet with them but will soon. i can't tell any difference between the itp or titans either. my 589's are made by itp. these are by far the best tires i've used on any quad, wish i had them years ago!!
