Mickey,
I'd like to know if you had any smaller kits other than the 330's. I don't want to make it really big but i want more power. What would you think about putting in a 11:1 high comp wiseco piston bored .40 or .60 over? Would this give me quite a bit of power? How much would this increase my displacement? Thankyou

guys leave mickey alone. whenever i see him post here its always because hes defending his rep. every1 is always talkin crap and i feel bad for the guy. personally i'd love to let him do my motor work if i had the money. i say when your adding that much more displacment things are bound to go wrong and not once has either the friend or the brother said oh yes he did all the regular maintinece, all they said was it was mickey's fault. i'm sure he makes mistakes but at least he is man enough to admit them.

KeyRacing,

Sorry, I missed over your post - there has been so many people to answer back to with all the e-mails plus the replys on the forums. Yes, I can send you out just a 330 kit for $295 and any local machine shop can read the directions and install it for you. The kit is very reliable even when we do a big valve head, carberator, cam & valve spring, pipe and black box mod, we have had no problems. We spend extra money on making the piston light-weight which is a key to making reliable and long lasting motors.

300EXKing,

We use a 12:1 piston out of the 250X Honda in the 300EX for 2 reasons: (1) It has a .020 higher deck height on the piston which gives it a better quench area around the outside of the piston which keeps the piston running cooler with higher compression without detonation problems on pump gas. I cut the piston down to 11:1 and this allows us to run a cam similar to the one in our 330 kit, (2) It has deeper valve pockets than Wiseco's 11:1 piston which allows us to run the bigger cam so you get more hp for your money. Personally, I like this piston with the stock cam in it for cross-country riding because it gives it great torque and it pulls through the rpm range quick.

Being I was the owner of the Quad with all of the problems, I thought this is what I should post. I owned a 300 ex that had bored/stroked 366 motor done to it after a couple weeks, The motor locked up, and it was discovered that the cylinder sleeve had collapsed. Mickey Dunlap took care of that at no charge to me, and I appreciate that. after getting the motor back I did not ride it until the next spring. After a couple hours on the motor the counter balancer decided it did not want to be inside anymore so It made a quick exit onto the ground, My guess is that it was weakened when the cylinder collapsed the previous fall causing this to happen. I ended up getting a 250x lowerend, having FST stroke that and putting my cylinder and head off of the 300ex on that. The motor was very fast after another month and a couple hours of riding the oil pump broke and fried the cam and rockers. The motor was then given to TC at REDBUD to have him go through it. The motor was recieved back from TC 1 year later(yes I typed 1 year) untouched, It seems he did not have enough time to do my motor, I guess some people just don't need to make their customers( who is paying the bills) after having the FST then redo the engine again I put a couple hours on it and had the oil pump go out again. this time not hurting anything I replaced the oil pump and it went out again.. Also, don't tell me I was revving it to much because I was running a stock blackbox. I sold the fourwheeler in august and was contacted by the purchaser 2 weeks later saying the crankpin broke, what caused this I don't know but the motor had probably 25 hours on it in 3 years time and had the oil changed every hour. I am personally not blaming FST for any of the problems. I would not personally recommend a 390 kit as I think that may be going a little to big for that quad. My thought is to sell the quad and start with a 400ex put a piston, cam, and big gun on it and it will run very well, But I would see nothing wrong with having FST do a 330 kit in your quad

Thanx,
brandon

First of all, I would just like to say thanks to those people who have written encouraging things about me. God says, "I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you" so expect to receive a blessing. Second of all, you don't need to feel sorry for me - it's part of the business, you take the good with the bad and you try to do the right thing. My point has been made in this last post by Brandon, the owner of the machine, and as you can see the difference it makes hearing it "straight from the horse's mouth" so to speak. I had a feeling I had taken care of Brandon the best I could (I didn't know I rebuilt his motor for free) but I know I always try to do what I feel is right and go the extra mile. As you can see, Brandon didn't blame me for his problems and I do feel for anyone that does high-performance work and has these misfortunes. This is what happens in life when we deal with mechanical machinery. Getting back to the original post, I contacted a racer that runs the GNCC races that has a 390cc motor which his rider won the championship a couple of years back in the 4-stroke mod class. They raced the motor for 3 years - they did have 1 oil pump go out - but other than that the occasional freshen up was all the motor ever needed. He has since sold the machine and it is still being raced somewhere in Kentucky. My point is the 390 motor is a strong, reliable motor and a whole lot of fun to ride! Thanks again for everyone's support. Mickey Dunlap

I have a question for you mickey, watever happened to that 500 warrior? Did you keep it? Is it still in use? Did you ever build anymore? I loved that bike especially for the fact that you took a bike that everyone seems to be "rejecting" these days, and made it into something really special. That bike was in a way what inspired me to build my warrior. Though you would not be interested in my motor (ported heads, .450 cam, titanium springs, electron carb and a .020 over wiseco) I feel i have something alot of people would never even in thier words "waste thier time on". I only laugh as i pass them in the woods when someone says something like this! My only major mod left is to install +2 arms. I just hope my ohlins shocks will be happy with these arms! I feel like my motor is good enough, it has more than enough power for everything except drag racing, and it doesnt do bad there if all its competition is stock 400's........lol. Also have you ever built any 4 strokes without counterbalancers? I know some people believe they are useless, those people are few and far between and i may be one of them, Iam experimenting now as i had to do some tranny work recently. I will keep you posted if you wish. For that last line i know some people will call me a moron, hold your tongues I pay no attention to people who dont even know how to work on thier own equipment, or have any experience in modifying, mickey will tell you, iam sure that experimentation is where alot of good ideas come from.

You never even said anything about my problem Mickey...

I had one of your 318 kits and it ran very well and was very reliable until the oil pump lost a few teeth. I don't have much respect for a guy that rebuilds my motor and doesn't check to see what caused it to go.

I have you to thank for turning me into a do-it-yourselfer. I ended up fixing my own motor and in doing so I found out that it's not really that hard (even done all the motor work on my 400EX) and I saved a TON of $$$ in the process. I guess the old saying rings true "if you want it done right you have to do it yourself".

Moto93,

Sorry I didn't answer you back but I didn't know what the question was. You said there was something wrong with it when it came in - what was wrong with it? What did we do to it? I just need to know more information because really don't remember this motor or you ever calling me about it.

KentuckyHillbilly,

Sorry, I didn't get back to you sooner. I was expecting Moto93 to get back on here fairly quickly and give me his explanations but he never did. So, to answer your questions - We sold the 500 Warrior and I talked to the kid about a month ago and he is very happy with it. We built several other ones - mostly Wolverines though - as far as the 500 kit goes. I don't recommend taking out the counter-balancers just because it vibrates too much and the gain in acceleration is very small. Most of the engines we build with strokers, such as the 500, 435's and 446's, rev so quick with the stroker cranks anyway there is no real reason to do it. Hopefully, I have answered all of your questions and again I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you.
