I'm looking for recomendations on a Gps unit for my atv/dirtbike trips. I'd like the ability to see a map or trackback system.
The ability to see Cooridinates, avg speed, top speed, milage traveled. And to take that info and record or transfer into a PC.
Any advice or recomendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

3cross,
I have a Garmin eTrex Vista. It comes with a serial cable so you can upload and download maps to/from the PC to the GPS. It's a small handheld unit slightly bigger than a small cell phone.

Most of the GPSs I looked at have trackback capability. The Vista has an optional cigarette lighter power cord and handlebar mount so you can power it from the 12V power outlet on your ATV. In 'battery save' mode, the batteries last up to 12 hours.

I used it on a 70+ mile ride this past Sunday. I had bought the MapSource topo map software and mapped a route through the Wasatch Cache National Forest. All I had to do was navigate from waypoint to waypoint. The thing works great.

My only gripe is the display size. It's compact and small. I wish they'd make a small form GPS with a color display. But then it would probably cost an arm and leg.
Hope this helps.
Mark

I just bought the Garmin model as well - after looking around this is the best and Ill tell you why I think so.
Its completely waterproof - means when you get back from a run you can hose it off or get some water off your camelback and squirt it as you're riding - to clean up the display in dirty rides (done that)
It doesnt have an antenna like the Magellan models that can break.
And its got some nice feautres and ESPECIALLY - they make a very nice after-market handlebar mount for the GARMIN. Do not, I REPEAT, do not buy the Garmin motorcycle mount for this - and expect to be bouncing around in the dirt/dunes - without it falling off. Buy the Garmin - and go to this site http://www.cycoactive.com/gps/gps_mounts_ram.html - and spend a little money on a nice mount that will NEVER fall off. I have the Garmin Legend - because it had a basemap of America - and I sometimes play in Baja. Anyway the Legend is way cool - the stock Garmin mounts are completely useless - save your 20 dollars and spend 39 on a real one - I fully recommend this setup - Ive bounced around in Baja,Trails,Water/beach and Glamis and it just doesnt move - I think Id break my arm before the GPS falls out and breaks. ! Later !

Bought a Garmin unit as well after being very unsatisfied with a Megellan. I have been extremely pleased with the Garmin.

as the owner of the Garmin GPS III+ and V models i can safley suggest either model as both for ATV trails and finding those nasty urban roads that all look the same in the city
check out garmin.com for the gps V details
