440Ex

Does anyone in here have a 440ex?? I am thinking about making mine a 440 but I would like to know what all you all have done other than the piston, boring, and sleeve.. And how well does it run. Another question is do you still use the stock oil tank? Any information would be greatly appreciated

I got a 440ex, you can check it out at my web site. I bought mine new w/ the 440 in i but i've driven a stock 400 and there is no comparison. I got the 440 IMS kit w/ a midrange cam and an 11.5:1 piston. I would go for the midrange kit for its reliability features. I've been riding my quad extremely hard for 1-2 yrs. and have'nt had one problem, with the exception of clutch wearing out fast. I highly recommend the hinson 8 pate clutch kit; cheap and easy to install to.

I'm with QuadSpeed440EX. I've had my IMS 11.5:1, Mild cammed, ported, hardened rockered, DMC'd 440 for over a year with absolutely no problems other than a occassional squalling clutch. I'm putting in a new clutch this winter. It is way faster than stock. I still use the stock oil tank but change oil every 10 hours or so. I'm also planning to do 1mm. larger intake valve job, full race cam, valve springs/guides, FCR 39 or 41 carb and freshen up the top end. I'm still not sold on the stroker kit yet for I hear that the rod likes to exit stage left.
I drag race at Big River Sand Drags and a stock motored/Noleen piped 400ex took the championship. Keep in mind that this is bracket racing.

Have you guys done anything to your suspension? I've been thinking about a 440, but question the wisdom of doing it without first doing the suspension. Am I going to be able to utilize the extra power without the suspension to handle it?

Before I built my EX motor I bought most of the handling goodies. A-arms, axle, front shocks and steering dampner. The EX suspension is ok for trailriding, but the front shocks are miserable on MX I rode them on a track a couple times and thought I broke my wrist a couple times.
Ok, now to the motor work. I have a Sparks 440 National motor, and it rips. Their are several good products included in this package. HD connecting rod, HD cam chain, and a 8 plate clutch system. The 440 can be known to break con rods I have seen it on a race quad. My clutch is awesome it shifted pretty hard when it was breaking in, but now it is very smooth and doesnt squall or show any signs of weakness.
I run my stock oil tank, but I use energy release oil additive energyrelease.com. I also change my oil alot. I never let it go more than one race or a couple trail rides. I am also a neat freak when it comes to my air filter, I have 3 and no one stays in my bike very long before another fresh and clean one gets put in.
I also have the 39 FCR which is a great carb. Easy to use, fits good, and seemingly maintenance free. If you can stand the noise a good high flow exhaust like the Sparks X-6 will help alot too. Run high gearing too like 15/36 the motor will pull it and the torque of these motors really comes alive with the gearing.

i agree with adam, ive got a 440 with web cam, ported polished ,hot rod , 11 to 1 JE piston 3 angle valve job fcr39mil carb sparks x6 pipe roll design lobo front end with custom axis long travel all around, but if i had it to do over again i would send the motor to curtis sparks and let him do it all at once he charges alot but you end up with the best running 440 out there
