I was thinking about selling my Bayou 220 and getting a 01' 250EX. I was just wondering if they were any good for mud, creek riding, etc. Any help would be appreciated!

You have a Recon right ? You should allready know because a 250EX is just a recon with alittle more power. Not trying to be an *** but think about it you allready have a recon so you can bet the 250EX is going to go just as good as the recon.

Duh, I know that, but I was thinking that the 250EX might have a lower ground clearance or something. You know, things like that.

The 250EX is great for mud or water. It is lighter than either the Bayou or Recon by about 50lbs so it is less likely to get buried. The extra power keeps the wheels spinning better, especially if you add mud tires. I had a Recon and I think the snorkle on it was not as high as the 250EX so that is a plus. My brother put Duro Excavators on his and it does really well in the gooey mud. I am thinking of trying the new Gators on mine. The only down side is you get a lot wetter or muddier on the 250EX due to the stylish but small plastic.

i am planning on getting a 250ex sometime. i want one because my friend has a recon and it has had a flawless record. with no one on his recon it actually flotas so you can bet the 250ex will. the 250ex has just stretched the parameters of engine tuning, looks, width, weight, and suspension to give it a more stable sportier ride than the recon.

I had a Recon a few years ago. Everything I liked about it is still true about the EX. It has the good low-end power, the quick handling, the drive shaft. It also has things the Recon didn't, like excellent front brakes, more top end power, more speed, aluminum wheels. I miss the mud protection of the Recon but that is a small price to pay for the things you get. The things I don't like on the EX are the overly stiff suspension and hard seat. I am working on finding softer replacement springs as a cheap fix for now. I will also eventually get a Hi Flite desert seat for it to add a little more padding.
