My stock Rubicon is running very rich. (Black deposits on spark plug).

If I put the new K&N air filter, which will give me more airflow do I still need to change my jetting??

Anybody using the new K&N filter??

By the way most of my riding is done between 3000-5000 feet.

Thanks for your input,

You WILL have to go richer. Don't know HOW MUCH richer. Consult a good Honda dealer in your area of operation, hopefully they will have a recommendation.

At 3000 to 4000 feet? Hmm, I would guess that with the Kit that the jetting would be very close to being right on as mine is also already jetted rich from the factory at sea level! check the plug and let us know.

Here, in the eastern U.S., I am told that Honda jets it's products for 1K feet above sea level. I have not read this, I have been told this by more than 1 tech.

Generaly all bikes are jetted rich, and at sea level.
A K&N wouldn't hurt, also main jets are about two bucks.
I'm afraid that you will need to rejet.

My suggestion would be to buy a jet kit. Now I now it's fifty or so bucks and your not racing it, but the kit comes with graet instructions, graet technical sapport, and having your dealer do it (IF he can get it rite the first time) will cost atleast fifty bucks.
It's a graet bike and you should be the one jetting it, as you will be the one riding it, meaning you will be the one who knows if your running rite.

Good luck!

The quads are jetted from the dealer for the proper altitude. No one here can tell you if you need to rejet after the filter without seeing the plug.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Just got the K&N filter from Rocky Mountain.

I live near the ocean and so does the Honda dealer, but everybody rides in the high desert (3,000-5,000ft). I am hoping the K&N will compensate for the increased airflow and higher altitude.

Gaff, I will buy the kit because I am planning a trip next summer at the Sierras (8,000 - 10,000ft) so I will need to be ready.

In the meantime I will let you guys know how the K&N is working out with the stock jetting when I go out in couple of weeks.

Thanks
Marco Polo
