I took the choke plate out of my stock carb- I noticed a little boost in throttle response and bottom end. Not anything major- but when you add up all the little mods- you can gain a horse or two. You don't need the stock choke as it is... simply pump the throttle a few times- and you basically did what the choke normally does.

I read about this choke plate removal on one of the threads posted a few months ago. Do a search for choke plate and you should be able to find the instructions.
