To fast4WDkid, You are exactly right on the forks absorbing the vibration. Good call.

I, personally have never owned a quad with a dirtbike or street bike engine but have rode them. Some tend to vibrate more than others so I think it just depends on the quad, engine, and how it is installed.

Oh, and by the way guys, this KNOWITALL character isn't who he makes out to be. You really need to check the Suzuki LTZ400 [horses mouth]topic again.

TitanRacing, frames aren't really all that easy to mess up. In a worst case scenario, all the CR motor would require is motor mounts, and a relocated airbox.

Oz_400EX-- Try to find a salvagable 250R frame. Around here, we have cycle shops that have old, worn out quads that you can usually buy(engine and rolling chassis) for around $300. That would be the best bet.. In my opinion that is..

don't bother putting a CR250 engine in your quad frame. It will shake so much that the frame will crack over and over, and you'll be left with both numb hands, and more weld on your frame than frame..

Not to mention custom pipes and motor mounts, airboot, electrical, and re route the coolant hoses.

 

damn it! i wanted to be the one that said that the trike won;t vibrate as much. anyways i do have soemthin important to contribute to this post. whoever said the 250 won;t vibrate enough to crack the frame is wrong. my quadracer's counterbalancer broke off so i didn't have one anymore. so basically it was a non-counterbalanced 250 engine after that. well sure enough frame snapped in 2 places. it was right under the seat on 2 different siections. i know the LT frame isn't as strong but still i'm sure the vibration would be pretty bad and the frame didn't even break at a high stress area. also when you ride it its gonna feel like you've been sitting on a big massaging chair for hours. your feet turn into rubber and your butt melts and your hands go numb (i'm being figurative here i hope you know what i'm saying..it just feels that way) yeah you do get used to it after a while but still you'll always have to worry abotu your frame.

As a matter of fact it is... barely. The guy has broken the front motor mounts twice. The second time, he just simply welded them directly to the frame.

The bottom motor mount broke once... it was very ugly, the whole bottom frame rail was twisted up around. He rewelded that, and reinforced it where the diagonal braces are(beneath the motor).

I have rode the quad, and only noticed a slight vibration. Nothing that seemed unusual. I must say though that it obviously vibrates, otherwise the mounts wouldn't have broke.

The CR motor is impressive though, but not worth all the hassle. If you want a 2 stroke quad, just get an R.

The guy said he might be selling it soon. Let me know if your interested, and I will find out a price for you.

 

Thanks for all the info guys.You see the problem i have here in Australia is that the 250r was never introduced here.There are a couple of imports here,but the r is so rarely seen.Also the exchange rate at this stage makes importing an r a very expensive exercise.I have the cr which makes 47 hp at the rear wheel and thought what if.My ex has had all the motor work + 39 fcr but it still lacks the snap i would like.Last of all, here we run just an open class and there is nothing worse than earning a position in a race and then having a banshee or a raptor come back past you on the long straights.Thanks again.....oz_400ex
