I am looking for a good set-up to drag race my 400EX in mud and sand. I have raced three times finishing 1st, 2nd, and 4th, but I would like to be on top consistently. I am currently running stock tires, FMF Powercore IV, K&N Powerfilter kit, and stock gearing. I am 5'11" and weigh 220 lbs. I raced a 400EX that had a complete LRD exhaust system and White Bros. rev. box and I could not beat him (he took first in the 4-stroke class and was undefeated). I have recently purchased a Stroker SX-1 pipe and the White Bros. rev. box. I am looking for suggestions for tires, gearing, cam, and if I should purchase a 440 kit or not.

You know how the saying goes, the more CC(440 cc), the better( its up to you). For now, I would play with the gearing. Go down 1 tooth on your countershaft (front) sprocket which will give you faster acceleration, but will lower your top-speed(not important for drag-racing) What kind of tires were you running? How did he hook up on the track? Maybe see about getting the same tires as the dude that was undefeated.

Have a great weekend ,
