WHAT ARE THE BEST MODS FOR A 300EX
#2
*Yawn*
You would have to invest more money into your 300 than its worth to make it faster than a 400. The only way to do that would be an FST 330 kit. Sure, the piston and bore job isnt much, but all the little stuff that makes a 4-stroke a pain in the butt will kill you. You said in your other post that you are GETTING a 300EX... Instead of worrying about spending money on your quad, why don't you just ride it, and get used to it. The very best modification you can to do your quad is ride it. The rider makes the quad, the quad doesnt make the rider.

listen to lonestarbanshee, he's right. get used to the quad before you go modding the **** out of it.
lonestarbanshee... you dont' have to bore a 300ex to make it faster than a 400ex. before i bored mine, i was still outrunning 400ex's. now, don't get me wrong, the only one's i was able to outrun before my bore job were completely stock, but still, i was able to outrun them. you're much better off just buying a 400ex to begin with though, cause you'll end up putting a BUTT-LOAD of money into your 300 before you realize it. my 300ex, after the bore and engine work, outran modded 400's too, but i had two or three times the money in my quad that they had in their's. if i had of put that money into a 400ex, it would have been a BAD ****.

Having owned both the 400 & 300EX's (still have the 300), I have to shake my head when I read about people claiming they regularly stay up with or beat 400EX's on a 300. Sure, it's possable to build a 300EX that could compete with a stock, or largely stock, 400 but most of the people who have that kind of money to spend on a toy also have enough sense to just get the faster quad to begin with. It would take copious amounts of cash to build a 300EX that would keep up with a 400EX. Not only would the motor have to be pumped up, but the entire suspension (A-arms, shocks, swing arm, axel, etc.) would have to be upgraded. Just hopping up the engine while leaving the suspension stock will only give you a scary quad, not a fast one.
If you want to improve on the stock 300EX without tuning it into an unreliable, unstable pile of junk, try a twist throttle, K&N w/jet kit, slip on exaust, and a set of nerfs.

TRXter,
dont set there and call me a lier when i say my 300ex kept up with stock 400ex's. no, i didn't have a load of money in my 300ex when i was beating stocker 400's, and after my bore job, valve job, and port job, i was blowing away some modded 400ex's. people dont give 300ex's enough credit. everyone says they're underpowered, and the 400ex kills them, with a little money, the 300ex can compete with the 400. you say people with enough money to build a 300ex and make it beat a 400ex should have enough sense to buy the faster one to begin with? so, you just call everyone who buys a 300ex and modds the **** out of it stupid? what about ppl who take vehicles and switch out the motor in it for a bigger one? why not just buy the car with the bigger motor anyway. like ppl who buy jeeps and but 350's and 454's in them. when ppl do that, they say it's awesome. maybe some ppl, like me, just like the idea of taking a smaller bike and beating bigger ones, just like some ppl in the drag racing circuts like taking pintos and berettas and beating mustangs. dont say you cant make a 300 eat a 400ex with some good mods and smart engineering, cause i've done it, i've been there. dont get on the forums and just call ppl liers man.

Ahh, good post TitanRacing. However, TRXter does have a point. This guy might not be able to handle a 400EX's power, but does want something a bit faster than a stock 300. Well, it's common knowledge that a 330 will STOMP a stock, or slightly modded 400.(Been there, built/done that)
Hopefully my Banshee will be like all of TitanRacing's quads... SOLD. A guy is coming to check it out this weekend... I hope he brings $4250 with him.

Titan, your integrity wasn't in question, just your judgement. If you want to be taken seiously, save the miraculous 300EX race stories for those who havn't ridden either machine. As far as the car analogy goes, it would be like taking a Vega 350 and saying it compares to a Poeshe 911 as a sports car. As a novelty the Vega is a cool little muscle car, but compared to a well ballanced machine like the Porshe, it's a bucket of bolts. Same goes for hot rodded 300EX's vs 400EX's. In fact, a highly modded 300EX is more likely to compare to a Corvair Monza than anything else.
Do I think ALL those who, as you put it, "modds the ****" out of a 300EX are stupid? Well, maybe that's just a bit extream. From what I've seen, most are guys that are stuck with what they've got and are frustrated by the fact that their ride doesn't have alot of horse power and not much suspension either. They are trying to make the most out of what they've got, which is cool, but I don't see the point in getting all delusional about it.
My real objection to your caims of total domination over the 400EX crowd is that, besides insulting my intelligence, it's misleading to those who are new to the sport or may be looking to get a new sport quad. In most cases any time a 300EX whomps on a 400EX it's because the the guy on the 300 is a much better rider. The 400 is a superior machine in ALL catagories EXCEPT for reverse and price.
The 300EX is a nice sport quad. We love ours and it get ridden all the time, but it isn't a high performance quad (the 400 is barely high performance - engine wise). Bumping up the horse power substantially with a big bore kit or high performance top end without totally rebuilding the suspension is a waste of time and money. If that is what you did to your Honda, it's no wonder you sold it.
