I have 00'EX K&N power kit, complete big gun system, 40 pilot, 155 main, and highrev cdi box. Anyways last night i went back-road riding 5gear 3/4-full throttle, and i stopped to wait for some buddys to catch up (damn warriors) and i noticed that the head pipes were glowing red hot. I dont think thats normal, is it? Whats the problem, is the bike running to lean on the top? The last time i checked the plug it had a light black shade to it, which i assume is alittle on the rich side. It was about 30 degrees out if that matters. Any help would be appreciated...

 

This is perfectly normal. I have an 87' Honda 250X and one night i noticed the same thing. My buddy has a 99' Scrambler 500 and his head pipe is black and mine is chrome and both are pipes were red at the beginning of the head pipe.

 

i also have an 87 250x and my friend was ridin an 86 lt185 and both pipes were cherry red

 

yes its cool my ds650 is the same way cherry red
after a good spin.
