clutching,
start up in neutral, pull in clutch and hold it, kick down into first, give it a small amount of gas and hold i and let off clutch slowly and smoothly, once you master it you can do it fast with more gas, then get abotu 1/2 throttle at least , pull in clutch, let off gas, kick up shifter, let out clutch back on gas, do the same thhing for the rest of the gears, and when de-celerating, slow down in teh gear you are in first before you down shift

At 6', you are going to be a little cramped on the 300. I would say get the 400, but take it REAL EASY until you get a lot of experience. The 400 is a bike you can grow into. The 300 is a bike you have ALREADY GROWN OUT OF.

If the only two quads you are considering getting are the 400ex & 300ex this is what I have to say....

Based on your size: 400ex

Based on your questions: 300ex

If you are open for other quad suggestions I say....

Based on your size: Polaris Scrambler 500

Based on your questions: Polaris Scrambler 90

I have two suggestions.

1) POW POW POWER WHEELS

or

2)Get one of those walmart bicycles that has the plstic on it to make it look like a dirtbike, put some cards on your spokes and you'll be cool.

I am about the same size, and a trail rider myself, and I think the 300 would be plenty big enough.
