This is concerning the stock lower A-arms ...& way to save some cash.
Since you cannot replace the Ball-joints in lower arms (they are welded in )does any one know if anybody has Cut-off b-joint & replaced it w/aftermarket b-joints?
Seems like this could done cause there would be a "whole"in end of arms to put new b-joints in the hole ,just like aftermarket arms & the original uppers, has anyone done this? If so what b-joints were used ?...part # & manufacturer?? thanx

I have heard (can't verify) that the b-joints in aftermarket a-arms are either VW or Pinto.

Part# ..no problem got it off my other TRX250R with +2 arms.(should work)
Got a another used arm(stock lower) and & gonna experiment on it,1st.
Gonna make a "Fixture" to cut-off(at correct angle) old B-joint & try it before cutting my set.

well i did that too my 300ex one time when i put 250r a-arms on it. i just did the top a-arm though, i dont remember what kind of balljoint it was, and i dont even think the guy at the parts house new what it was off of, he just happened to finally run up on it with the correct deminsions. but anyways, it seemed to work well, i had adjustable camber

You guys wouldn't happen to know a way to replace the boots that go over the ball joints would ya? My boots are cracked and one is torn a little bit and I went to the dealer to order some new ones and they said that I had to order entirely new A-Arms. What a bunch of crap. Any suggestions on how to repace or fix them?

Dave, you can use laeger ball joints or suzuki lt 250r ball joints, depending on if you want do do any welding or not on your a arms. The thread in ball joint (laeger) is a little nicer IMO. I have an 87 250r with the suzuki ball joints in the lower a arms and I have an 88 250r with the laeger ball joints in both the upper and lower a arms. I am bulding an 86 250r for a friend of mine now with laeger ball joints in it.
Do you belong to TCTRI?

Dave, I am sure you could get the upper ball joint to work , but you would have to make a sleeve to fit in the lower a-arm. The hole in the lower a-arm is just about 0.875ID and the upper ball joint is smaller than that. I think I paid about $20.00 a piece. I rode at Tower city about 12 years ago , but I haven't been back since. I think I have seen a couple of your R's.The one I think was an 87 that you sold last year, and you where building an 86 around the same time. What happened to the DS?
The automotive ball joint that you can use is out of a VW Transporter, they are 14 mm,I am not sure that you can buy them a whole lot cheaper and they are not plated so you would have to paint them.
Mr.Plate(correct?)

Yep, I was in garage last nite (what else is new )& realized the uppers are to small in diameter,& not thrilled w/using a sleeve.
So I will be ordering new ones to install after cutting the lower& powder coating (this is reason for rebuilding)them .
Gonna repowder paint every part possible, while rebuilding this "R".

The ol DS is gone ,no more heavy four-strokes for me.I liked the DS
but I could not ride it as wild as like to ride the "250R"s.
I'm building this "R" for me & the other half to share. My other half will ride it when we ride together. Also since it will be "stock " width...I can use it to race "harescrambles" in spring.
The '86 you spoke of turned to be a great project & great quad too ,we still have it,.. I never sell another TRX250R again.
Next,...soon building a 310 w/powervalve motor out of a spare motor I got a hold of recently for my 86 "R"....any recomendations on best kit??

Dave, To use the 14mm ball joints you are going to have to weld a sleeve in it and tap it also.If you want me to send you an e-mail detailing the installation ,I will. As far as a powervalve motor , I would go with an LRD. Duncan is a good choice also. Let me know if your going to buy an LRD kit, There is a dealer not to far from me, He has pretty good prices.
