Honda ES450 Foreman
#1
Hello all,
I just had my es 450 serviced and tuned, it's a 98 model and I ask the tech to check the cooling fan because I had't heard it run lately. I only use it from oct-jan and very seldom in between. He said the temp sensor was bad and replaced it but I used the machine today and didn't notice it run any.Does anyone know what temp it should come on? Use to come on quite often when I would creep up the old logging road to my hunting spot, but haven't heard it lately. I know it's a new sensor, but I didn't have anything to check it with in the woods today. Any ideas? thanks

I'd guess their target tempereture is a nice and toasty 180 degrees or higher. The fan generaly won't run at all unless you are working it, or crawling very slow. A few things that can affect the motors temp is how clean it is, a muddied over motor will warm a lot more causing the fan the come on. Also when the motors are new they have greater internal friction, generating much more heat in the oil, blame the cooler running on better oil. If you have a hot exhaust pipe, and want the fan to keep that area cool, you can put a manual fan switch in to supplement the thermostat control, but it just isn't needed for the oil, ( which should be maintained at around a toasty 180 degrees, overcooling leads to thermal inefficiency. )
