Hey Nick1,

Better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

You make some very valid points about reliability. I own a Polairis 250 (1993) which has been trouble free except for the annual spark plug and tranny fluid change. I ride in a sandy river bottom and in 2" to 3 ' water. My bud has a Honda 300 Ex and has had some problems due to the fact that you cannot grease the Honda. (Front Ball Joints) The Honda 300 is an incredible machine which I would certainly buy, but the Polaris feature of grease fittings on moving parts sure has saved me some $ compared to my buddy's Honda. I feel in normal riding the Honda would outlast my Polaris, but the water seems to eat the non-greasable front end parts alive. (We do ride in extreem conditions)

I agree with you about the Polaris reliability. I feel the reason my 4-wheeler holds up so well is because it is a simple two-wheel drive model with a proven 250cc two-stroke engine (It really has been tough as nails). The 4-wheel drives do have some problems.

I have owned and raced Honda CRs (Motocross Dirt Bikes) for years. They were very well built and easy to maintain for a race machine. Honda does build a good machine.

Man, that whole Gordon vs. Corncob thing was hilarious!!! Gordon correcting Cob's punctuation making Cob more frustrated and miss more punctuation. Cob making statements that Gordon would comment on saying why Cob was wrong. Great stuff. Yet I was irritated by Gordon's all knowing attitude. Talking about this and that yet conflicting his own arguement later in the discussion and Cod's tendency to just sit behind the keyboard and pound out a reply in frustration and did I mention the lightly veiled "I can ride tougher terrain than you"
undercurrent!

All around funny/entertaining stuff though!

Glenn.

Wow, has this come a long way from the first post. Finally got him calmed down and along comes another - except he seems to be a bit to excitable.

Gordon does have quite a bit of patience. I Know. He has spent many hours helping me improve my riding and improve my quad. Also, while I would not go so far as to say he is "ALL KNOWING" , Glenn, He is VERY knowledgable. I have ridden many times with him, have learned from watching him, have looked at his ideas of improving his quads and have incorporated some of those ideas on mine where possible.

As far as the terrain we ride - you don't even want to try to go there - if you haven't ridden in the area, don't make judgements about it. I have (as Gordon mentioned) seen the crashes... I'm not saying it can't be done - I know rider skill has a LOT to do with the kind of terrain a quad can ride. I will be the first to admit that I will not attempt some of the things Gordon does with his 300 (or 450) on my 300 - not that it's reckless, it's just beyond what I feel comfortable with. But, I can do things now I would NEVER have tried before being shown "how" to do it right. Every now and then, a person needs to realize they are NOT the most capable rider in the world - they do NOT have the ultimate quad - shut their mouth and open their ears and LEARN something.

I enjoy riding with "better" riders - cause I always learn by watching - both what to do and sometimes more importently - what NOT to do

I also don't think there is an similar types "ultimate" quad... Each has it's good points AND bad. Maturity is being able to admit the bad. Other than that, if you can accept the particular bad points and still think your quad is the best for you based on its good points (for you), then you have the right quad. Also, don't think your good points are necessarly everyone's good points...
i.e Mike Chero wants every quad in the US to have disk brakes - personly after riding some rocky trails with a few quads with disk brakes and having to stop about every 100 ft to bend the brake covers away from the rotors - I like my sealed drums - they stop me just fine.
Bill C. loves the Polaris 4wd system - I don't.

But the great part is - it doesn't matter! Mike can have his disk brakes - I can have my drums. Bill can have his Polaris 4wd (If he can get a dealer to fix his quad - I'm truely sorry he's having to go though that ordeal) and I can have my 3wd.

Obviously folks can like different things - otherwise there would not be as many quads to choose from!

Cob did get one thing very right - "Lets share the trails, share the riding and enjoy the scenery."

Happy trails y'all

p.s. One other thing - I'm sorry, but the funniest post has to go to atvbbs with:
"Post deleted for insufficient coherence."

Thanks Bill, I appreciate that. I hope you get things straighted out to your satisfaction. Nobody should have to go through that kind of grief.

Take care and have a good evening.

Happy Trails
