cr250 vs atv?

well, if your raptor is stock, the bike will outpower it by a good margin, if it is running in tip top shape. it puts out about 43hp stock, whereas a 660r will make 35-38hp at the rear wheels. and of corse, like soneone else said, it weighs about 225lb vs 400, and 1 skinny tire vs 2 wide tires. I bet however, that the raptor has more torque, which is just as important as hp. the bike will still be faster...if it gets traction.

I switched to a CR too, if you like jumping and freestyle riding, then you made the right choice. For trails, I like the 400EX better, even though it was fun to race and jump too.
No matter what the speeds are, the dirtbike will feel much faster and in my opinion is a lot more performance oriented than quads in general. Its really a matter of preference, owning both is the way to go.
In my experience, stock Banshees get beat by stock CR125Rs. Its a close race in a straight line, and on a track nothing touches the dirtbike.
Of course, I welcome different opinions.

I sold my 96 CR-250 last august,I can personally tell you a hole different beast.
You will know the first time you will touch the throtle.
And no, the raptor doesn't come close.
Good deal though.
By the way I'm 40 years old had 250 mx bikes sense 15, had to sell mine because I just couldn't hold on any more!!!!
And thats a FACT

All I know is that a CR 250 is to much bike for me. Mainly because I can't ride dirtbikes very good. I rode Bobby Parr's brothers alki RM 125 and that thing was FAST!!! I know it had a FMF pipe, was a alcohol burner, and other than that I don't know... it had LOTS of mods though. I also rode a KX 125 and even though it wasn't runnin all that good it was still pretty fast, although I think my Dale could out run it. I rode a KX 60 and since I am 6'1" or 6'2" and had to sit all the way back to keep my knees from hitting the handle bars, that thing would wheelie everytime I hit the powerband no matter what gear I was in. Acceleration wise, it would keep up with my old 300ex. The KX 60 has a Pro Circuit pipe. The 2-stroke powerband on the dirt bikes is awesome.

There must be some serious mods on the CR's or your quads aren't running very good but, I owned a CR250 about a year and a half ago and when I first got it, the thing hauled(going from an LT230 to a CR250 is kinda scary, especially for your first dirtbike!)but then my Uncle bought the 250R that I won now, and he would beat me everyime we raced. The ATC has a FMF silencer, K&N filter and drilled airbox lid, the CR had Pro circuit pipe, After market filter(don't remember what brand)and Race Tech Suspension, not that it will be any faster with that in a drag race. The CR now belongs to my beighbor and I own the ATC250R, and I still beat the CR in a drag race. Some advice to you, get the metal Bark Busters so that way everytime you lay it over, and you WILL do it, you don't break the levers, or your hands. As for any bike on the trails, it will probably smoke just about every quad out there, it is very hard to keep up when you have somthing three times wider in a very tight trail.

Honda claims 50-52 HP for both the CRF450 and the CR250. thats quite a bit more than a raptor, cannondale, or anything. Now that I've got a bike I don't think I could go back to jumping/racing a quad. Whole different ball game.
