What atvs do they compare with? I've got a chance to trade my scrambler for one. Does this make for a pretty good starter? Ive never ridden a dirtbike before. The bike is a 99. To sell it outright the guy wants 3495 for it. Any help would be nice.

The CR, and all MX 250's, are an entirely different animal than a sport quad. It has about the same horse power as the Raptor, but with half the weight and less rolling resistance. You're looking at a much sharper edged weapon there. You can learn to ride on a CR, but I wouldn't call it a starter bike. Just be careful until you get used to the extra performance.

My brother has a cr250. They are VERY powerful. Its going to take alot of getting used to if you have never ridden one, and you will probably biff a few times in the process. It sounds like your on the good side of the trade.

A CR250 is faster/quicker than a Banshee. A Banshee can beat a 125. A 125 will beat a 400ex. That's just speed, you can't compare anything else really. BTW, these are just my observations so please don't start a flame about it.

Thanks everyone for the help. I know what a raptor has cause i got one, so the comparison with that really helped out alot. How do they do on trails and that type of stuff like i said i have never rode a bike before and i don't know anybody thats got one. We all ride quads around here. Do you think the bike would be to small for me? I'am 6'0 and weigh close to 200lbs.

The CR will make you respect if the first time you crack the throttle.
It will land you on your back/butt the first time you ride it, if not carefull.
Being 200 lbs, you should be able to handle it well though.

Dragracing, the CR will take any quad. No doubt about it.

(any quad meaning production or relatively close to it, a fully modded alcohol banshee will probably beat a stock CR250! They are fast bikes though)

Cr 250 or Yz or Rm 250s are fast bikes no doubght about it but a decently modded quad will beat them in a drag race and no we are not talking about all out drag modded race quads. My Banshee with only FMF fatties pipes,Vitos SS pistons and a Trinity head with 21cc domes could take a 250cc dirt bike in a 1/4 mile drag race on pavement. They would get the holeshot from 1-3rd gear by about 2 bike lenghts but from 4rth to 6th i was gaining on them, passing them in 5th gear and ending up winning by about 4-5 quad lenghts at the end of the 1/4 mile strip.I raced 5 of them 2-2001,1-2000,1-1999 and a 1998 the results were always the same, i would say that at 1/8 mile we were dead even but after that i was taking off due to my top speed advantage.A Cr 250 in stock form barely hits 80 mph on top while i was hitting 85-87 with my mods.

I know i will hear from some of you saying that a 250cc dirt bike hits 100-300 mph on top but this is total BS!!!!!!...They barely hit 80 mph and this is the plain truth god a 500cc doesnt even get to 95 mph in stock form but this is a gearing problem.

My message wasnt meant to say that they are the fastest land machines or anything like that...
I do know that a stock CR, KX, YZ, RM, SX, 250's arnt going to hit 90 stock.
With the strong powerband of the bikes, I wouldnt be surprized if different gearing yielded 85-90 MPH. (just a guess)

The 250's will throw you off quickly if your not carefull...

the main reason they don't get going that fast is because their geared for an MX track where you don't need speeds like that.
