400ex higher altitude jetting
#2
When I went to Col last summer we stopped in at a Dealer in the area to ask them about jetting and eh said to drop the main 1 size for every 1500 ft that you go up and the piolet 1 size for 3000 ft. So I went from a 160 to 150 on the main and 45 to 40 on the piolet. I have a 400 with a 440 kit and it ran very good and I was able to use the local gas instead of the 50/50 that I have to run at home.
The best thing to do is to check in at a local dealer and ask them.

I wouldn't bother with a rejet for a short (weekend) trip. I live at ~1,000 ft, and frequently ride my local (San Bernardino) mountains at up to 7,000 ft, and in the Sierras at over 10,000 ft. Sure the bike runs worse, but it's not so bad that it is worth the trouble of a rejet for a short trip! I recently installed a Edelbrock carb, which is suposed to have altitude compensation. Havn't tried it out at realy high altitude yet, but at 5,000 ft it did a great job the other day!!!
