Anybody ever fall off the ramp while loading on truck?

I had my metal tri-folds slip off the tailgate once while loading on a concrete and since then I use the safety chains (fastened to the receiver hitch) every time I load or unload. I can see how accidents happened and one has to be real careful when stepping out of the pickup box. Am glad you didn't get hurt.

All i use is two boards. Lay them against the tailgate makeing sure they aren't too wobbly, back the quad up and go like hell! Don't even look back. The faster i get up the less of a chance something is going to break. I only do that if I'm by myself the rest of the time if there are two of us we just lift it up. (300ex very light).

Guys,
The type of ramp im using is quad boss aluminum bi-fold 1500lb capacity.I really did not do my home work on the ramps.I just bought what the dealer had at the time. The ramp came with these safty straps i hook on to my cargo tie down hooks in the bed of my sb silverado.I think i may look into buying some alluminum flat stock high enough so the tires ride on the inside to keep from slidding side to side.I will use screws to mount them.
I feel pretty safe with the straps.Keeps the ramp from kicking out.
My original post is meant as a warning.Be carefull when driving up the ramps if the tires are wet.
I am a first time atver, im learning the hard way.I have to try diffrent things to do this.Nobody is holding my hand.I am sure i will get good at this soon.
Any other ??'s please ask.
Later,shawn

Ranger, I can sympathize with you. I did the same thing. Just came back from a 5hr good ride, everything went great, no flats no close calls, until I loaded my Wolverine into the truck. I used 6 ft 2x6 with metal ends. I got 3/4 way up when the tires started to spin, what I should have done was backed it back down and asked for help, but NOOO, what did I do? you guessed it, hit the gas hard, the back boards spit out and over the quad and I went. It did fell like slow motion. Thank god nothing happened to the quad. Luckly I had my helmet on because my head smacked the cement. Whats weird is I always take my helmet off as soon as we get back. I bruised my elbow real bad. I am going to by those metal ramps.

I always use my winch to load my Recon. (this is after I fell off one day in the driveway) :-) I installed a heavy duty cargo hook in the front floor of the truck bed. It works really well, As I load it, I can either sit on it or stand off to the side. The cargo hook looks nice and was easy to install. I wouldn't recommend using the standard (factory) hooks, they aren't designed for the load that is put on them by the winch. I have some photos if you would like.
