Got a problem. I took off the plastic handlebar guard on my 300EX and now took off the headlight (not much night riding). Where is a good spot for the key switch? Does anyone else have this configuration?

i just took my key off all togather(if someone wants to steal the bike its going to take more than that to stop them)
if you want to keep the key you could cut a hole somewhere else for it or you could make a bracket for it like they make for the Banshee(i have never seen a pre-made bracket for a 300EX)
hope this helps

hey, i did this mod to my 300ex. i got a wood drilling bit and cut a hole in the front plastic, on the very top piece of plastic right under teh handlebars that the fenders bolt to. i drilled the hole on the right side as close to the seat as possible, but you cant get it too close because of the gas tank. if i ever get another 300ex, this is where the key will go, whether i do away with the headlight or not, i think it's better than the factory setup. if you dont understand what i'm talkin about (i know i'm not doin a good job of explainin), then just say so, and i'll give you a link to a picture of a 300ex that shows what i'm talkin about

i noticed you're only runnin a 130 main jet. have you not done many motor and airbox mods to your quad yet? i was runnin a 152 main, but my 300ex was far from stock.

Here's what I did, go to a dealer and order an ignition cover from a 87 250x. It is a small piece of red plastice that covers the handle bar mounts. It has a predrilled hole for the key switch and hole for the breather tube. Hope that helps.

RiverRacer04-

I had a 130 main and have since changed it. It was running super rich and at the time I did not feel like messing with it. I put the stock main back in and it ran perfect. With the 130 main, I tried air box mods, but to no avail. There are no motor mods. I am giving it to the girlfriend. I graduate college in May and am getting a 400EX or the new Z400. I want to wait and see what the Z400 has to offer. Most likely, I will get the 400EX. Thanks for the help and yes, I would like you to send some pics my way. Thanks.

My friend had a piece of black plastic with a hole cut in it and secured the key in it, then bolted it between two of the bolts that are revealed after you remove the headlight. I am not sure what the two bolts do, but i beleive they were either for the lights or the plastic handlebar guard. I hope that helps its really simple and looks quite good.

Hi, one of my friends relocated his key on the right side of the plastic just like the other guy explained. Just take the plastic off and drill a hole to fit it. He also relocated the neutral and reverse lights on the left. This looks very nice with the race cut fenders on the 300ex. Im gonna do the same to my 250 this weekend when I get new bars. (bent the others to He!!) But im gonna put the lights in a different spot. I have ideas but havent measured or anything to see if they will work. If I get it done I might post some pics or something.
