read my post in the yamaha forum. or if your too lazy i'll summerize it here for you and end this topic. ITS ALL ABOUT THE SKILL OF THE RIDER, NOT THE MACHINE. i have personally seen a 400EX ride a wheelie for over 2 miles. i have taken my ex into 5th gear with a wheelie so many times i couldn't even take a guess on how many times it has been. blaerboy your some punk who thinks your a bad **** cuz you have 660cc's between your legs. get off it, it don't make your dick any bigger. and red400ryder, you really shouldn't worry about somethin so dumb, like i said its all about rider skill not the machine your on.

Juggalo I 100% believe what you say about it being the skill of the rider not the machine and I have the skill to ride wheelies all day long and do other tricks. I have only tried about 3 times aleast to shift to 5th. when I get some new tires for my quad I will achieve my 5th gear wheelie soon after that. also I have seen your pics and I must say man some of them wheelies are cool. I have done the one where you sit on it backwards and pull it up and ride a wheelie but haven't practiced it that much. what gear do you ride it in and can you ride it far? well let me know something see ya later my friend from #1 stunning madmike

well for a backwards wheelie i like second gear because the front end won't come up as fast and you can ride it longer, but its also a lot harder to get up. the farthest i have ever rode backwards was maybe about 70 feet.

I've got a couple of friends with 400EX's that can ride a wheelie 1st thru 5th gears...without dropping, until they run out of real estate.

However starting a wheelie while in 5th gear just takes certain terrain, traction and body english to do...and can be done...with the 400EX's smooth power delivery. Granted, modded 400EX's and other, more powerful, short-wheelbase quads can do it with ease, but stock 400's can do it with some effort.
