350X engine in a 250X....
#1
I have an 86 LT250R know that is too expensive for me to keep running. I am going to sell it for a 250X. I know how much of a power drop it will be so I would like to put a 350X engine in it.My question is, how much additional mods will I need to go with the change besides a custom pipe? I would get works shocks as the next thing. I am not skilled enough to do the switch myself so I would get a performance shop close by to do it. How much could I get for the stock 250x engine and how much labor would be involved? Also where is the best place to find a 350x engine?

TCR has the kit including the exhaust header that you will need with the 250X frame.
If you decide to not go with the kit, it's relatively an easy conversion. The rear engine support [on the engine] will need about 1/2" cut off with a hacksaw. On the front motor supports [on the frame] you will need to make a few spacers that go between the engine and frame. Then just have someone who does exhaust work build your headpipe out of one for a 350X.
As far as hooking up the electricals,..you can use the 350X wireharness or use your 250X harness. If you use the 250X wireharness, you will have to "reverse connect" two wires and tape off the other. I would suggest using the 350X harness since it makes for a cleaner install. You should have no problem finding one at a junkyard.
You will have to use a little heat on the kickstarter and bend it SLIGHTLY to make it fit in the indention on the 250X plastic. It doesn't need moved much at all. It's pretty close without bending it.

I was going to do this conversion but I decided against it for one reason. Parts. It may not be tomorrow but in the next few years down the road parts could become harder to find. Just keep this in mind. I know from my experience with my CR. Speaking of this Knowsalot would you have any idea where I might be able to find a clutch cover for my '83 CR125R? Honda didn't get the metal right that year and if you used a glycol based anti-freeze over time it ate through the waterpump housing. Every junkyard I've called doesn't have a one. One guy told me that if I can find one I should consider myself lucky. Honda quit making them 2 years ago so I'm still searching.

Ok , Im doing this conversion now...its not as simple as it sounds..."just drop in the motor...tada yada"...no it takes some work. you have to cut the oil cooler lines and rerout them, take off the auto compression cable ( thats one I never heard of when I reached it) ..and order a manual one if you dont have one, thay are a bear to start,( at least thats what pam at powerol told me) you have to cut 1.780" off the upper rear mount,I would not do it on my own, get every thing from powerol , It'll cost you $546 for exaust and spacer kit...any questions.....?
