Every state is different on titling your machine. In Ohio, we didn't have to title them until 1999. My 98 Polaris that I bought new didn't have a title, but to get the registration renewed, I had to go through the titling process. If you want to ride on public property in Ohio, you have to register it and it must be titled to do that. Also, if you ever try and sell the machine, you will have to have it titled in order to transfer it to the new owner (the sale isn't legally complete in Ohio unless this is done). I would imagine that every state will eventually make you title them. The state of Ohio claims that it was done in order to cut down on the theft of them, but it was just really a tax scheme to get more sales tax dollars.
