426 Piston Install -HELP-
#11
Does anyone know how long it takes the average 4 cycle ATV to splash enough oil up onto the cylinder walls, or the oil pump to get oil to the top? But then again, if you are a shop, you depend on repeat customers.. right? (I think it's called Job Security?)
Maybe I'm showing my age, but they still make this stuff called non-detergent oil (don't ask for it a Wal-Mart - you will get the deer in the headlight look). Non-detergent (ND) does not have all the added non-scuffing and keep it clean gook that they put in the "normal oil" of today, therefore making an excellent lubricant that will allow your rings to seat. I use it to assemble my quads, and run it for the first tank of gas (they used to say 500 miles on an automobile engine), to help seat my rings. I also never put fire in the hole until I can SEE the pump is putting oil to the top of the engine (thus how I know how long it takes the pump to get oil to the top, and 5 seconds ain't no where near long enough).
