Hey guys, I was reading the forums all day and I never really found an answer to my question so I deciced to post. I recently moved to Seattle and I am now making enough cash to pay for my truck and buy an atv. I just moved from Yuma, AZ (30mi from Glamis to you Dunies) and wasnt making enough cash to pay for my truck and an atv (im 19) but hope to make this a hobby. I plan on buying a faster atv when I feel comfortable riding one in various conditions, and I know banshees have a strong title so I hope to one day eat banshees for breakfast =). Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated, along with some good riding locations for the Northwest. Thanks

Unless you just have to have a clutch and plan to do alot of big jumps, take the 250EX. It has more features, less maintenance, and when you decide to move up to a bigger quad, you will have a helluva lot better resale value along with a broader base of potential buyers.

The Blaster has the worst resale value of any quad in any class. You will be lucky to have a Blaster worth 2200.00 on the used market if you were to sell it the day after you bought it. The market is full of them for under 1200.00 with modifications and a 2002 is no better than a 1988.

Sauce
i got a 250ex for my son and he can't get enough of the thing, and with some wheel spacers, exhaust, jet ket,and aK&N filter they are really spunky, and easy to handle for a beginner.the ex has reverse, auto. clutching and elec.start, the blaster don't.i,ve rode blasters and there fun and fast rides but on the trail or just taking it easy having the exstras are really nice.

If you are a big (or even medium/large size) guy, both of these bikes are to small. We have owned both. The Blaster is certainly a more thrilling ride, but our Blaster was down for repairs all the time. It just isn't a super durable bike. Our 250 (only a year old though), gets ridden hard and has had no problems. Our Recon (the bike the 250 is based on) has had years of hard riding, without so much as a hickup!

You'll probably get bored pretty fast, riding either bike.

Both the 250ex and the Blaster are good quads. However, they have several differences between the both of them.

I used to own a 2000 Blaster. I thought it was a fun quad to mess around with. I however was too big for it but thats besides the point. I liked the quick acceleration of the Blaster with the 2-stroke powerband. It is quick and nimble, and a fun little quad to ride. However, I had several things that I did not like about the Blaster. The first thing is that the suspension sucked really bad. It had plenty of suspension for jumps, but it is a rough ride. The second thing that I did not like about the Blaster is that the brakes sucked. It's like they don't even grab when you go to apply the front or rear brakes. The third and last thing that I didn't like about the Blaster is the narrow wheel base that it has. It is so narrow, you have about 100% chance of killing yourself on a whoop section on a mx track.

As for the 250ex, a buddy of mine just bought own and I have ridden it a couple of times. At first when Honda came out with it I figured that it wouldn't be much of anything power-wise due to the fact that it is the same motor as the Recon with 10% more power. I tell you what, man was I wrong. The 250ex has more "*****" then I thought. It has a ton a torgue, and good suspension. It can also spin its tires!!!! I think the 250ex is a great machine.

It all depends on what type of riding you want to do. If you want the faster of the 2 machines, definately go with the Blaster. But if you want something for trail riding, go with the 250ex. The Blaster doesn't have that much torgue for trail riding. Yeah, it will do alright in the trails however, the Blaster gets its torgue/HP winded out at a certain rpm. All 2-strokes are that way. 4-strokes create the most torgue/HP at lower rpm's which is better for trail riding.

u sound like you know alot, but howcome you cant spell torque right???..and for the 250 being able to spin the tires...thats not a very big task for a 250, mabey if it were an 80 or something, then it would be worth mentioning, ok back to the point, i have to say, the blaster is probably more fun to ride than the 250 , and is powerful and peppy for a 200, the 250 doesnt have the same power, but the torque is right up there whenever u need it....if you want something that you can open up and pop a wheelie and throw some roost, the blaster is the right one for you, but if youre into slow trail riding and a couple mild hill climbs is where id opt for the honda..hope this helps...later

Well, the 250EX is a great machine, but do you want a clutch?? Do you want a chain and sprocket system or is driveshaft okay? The driveshaft is alot more durable. If you want to change gearing buy the blaster or a 300EX. All I have heard about Blasters is problems. If u really want to step up buy a 400EX,they can be ridden slowly if desired. They can be modded to be totally bad-@$$ aswell. If u do buy the 250EX it WILL eat a Banshee on a trail. Though it all depends on the rider. Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on riding it on mainly trails up here in WA, but I plan on taking a few trips down to the Oregon Sand Dunes as well to get some riding time down there. I think Im gonna go with the 250ex because it seems like a better bike for the type of riding Ill be doing.
