IMS440 vs. Raptor drag results
#1
I installed the IMS 440 with the J&E 10.3/1 piston, and new valve seals. <thats it>
I raced my two buddies raptors tonight (after proper break in of about 3-4 hours), and the races were dead even with both raptors.
I am noticing that my clutch is slipping badly when I shift though. Something to look into. Also, with the 440, E-series, and no airbox lid, my quad sounds downright evil. Very nice power/torque increase over stock.
Something for the stock 400 guys to think about. The project total was about
500 including the machine work, and the valve seals.
MUCH more fun to ride.

well this is going to **** off some people but i dont care, its my opinion stated. i was going to buy a 2001 raptor last month for dirt cheap. BUT i had to pass it up, im not siding towards one side but the raptor did not have anything to offer to me. power was dissapointing, not impressed by the lack of top speed. i guess im spoiled with a 250r when it comes to raw power and top end but in my opinion, buying a 2000 400ex for 3500 and spending 700 on it to compete with a dirt cheap 4500 MINT 2001 raptor is a better investment. you know what the engine work is and by then youve gone through the quad completely so you know what your dealing with. no this raptor i was looking at was not beat on. it was mint and was an old farmers quad that bought it for his grand kids that never rode it. yes it was "broke in" so i dont want to hear any excuses, but im sure there is raptor lemons, and raptor rockets out there. just dont rip me a new one, this is from experience so dont try to tell me otherwise.

If the Raptor is such an inferior machine, why is it so important to outdrag it? This is all we see, even on other forums, guys modding their 400ex's so they can drag with a Raptor. If one bought a machine solely to drag, and could afford it, then the Raptor was the only reasonable purchase. One can add the same mods to a Raptor as a 400ex and the Raptor will destroy it. Add a pipe and proper jetting to the Raptor and you have mid-40's hp, add the same to the 400ex and get 1-2 axtra hp....about 30 horses. If money was a concern when purchasing an atv, save the cash and spank that Raptor through the woods with riding ability.....more gratification and no mods needed....end result of a stock engine that will last for years as well. Later guys.
