300EX Vs. 250X
#11
the 250x is from the xfamily of engine's such as the 200x and 350x atc's that still rock the world today because of there spot on engine setup, plus the 250x is lighter cooler lookin and whoever that guy that said you can't get part's for the 250x might as well say that about the 250r while he's at it, hehe, if you look anywhere for aftermarket part's the listing will say 250x/300ex alot of time, and there are many goodies just for the 250x

My old 87 250X in stock form beat every stock 300EX I raced. I'd go with the 250X because it's lighter so it handles slightly better, it's kick start (I am a big fan of kick start) and also you can find a good one for about $1200 give or take depending on condition. My friends dad recently found one that needed plastic and tires and he only paid $800 for it.
Also if you go with the 250X stay away from the 87's they had a weak 2nd gear, I had a bit of trouble with mine before I got rid of it. Also some people do alot of excessive B!tching because ot the reverse procedure on the 300EX/250X. A simple way to fix that is to get an aftermarket clutch perch and take your reverse cable and put some spacers on it so it's always pulled out so all you have to do is have the clutch in and pull the lever.

250X/300Ex are the SAME! minus the differences said in the previous 13 replys. for parts go to servicehonda.com and get the 800 number and call them, you get a discount and they still have all the parts. ALMOST all parts are interchangeable. a simple way to fix the reverse is to just take the cable off! make sure the switch is flipped back, then you can just pull the lever up and go in reverse. 400 plastic will fit, just need to make up your own brackets. go to my pics and take a look at my bike, 91 250X w/ 400 plastic, turned out pretty good...least i think
