removing swingarm pivot bolt?
#1
I need to replace the swingarm bearings on my atc250r and the pivot bolt seems to be frozen in the swingarm. Has anyone had this happen and if so how did you remove it. The book says to tap it out with a drift punch, but it does not come out. any info would help, thanks

Neither I nor anybody else that I talked to knew what a drift punch was when I took the piviot bolt out of my X. I just got a really long punch had somebody hold it and used a 13lbs sledge hammer (BFH) and beat the $hit out of it. Worked great! That and a liberal amount of WD40 do wonders.

well i bought an 88 R and the guy i bought it off of never took the swingarm off and it was frozen in there soo bad that i8 just cut it up. it was all i could do. i just recently took mine out that had been sitting in there for about a season and it took a little bit of pounding until i could get the head of the bolt far enough out so that could put a wrench in front of the head and hit the wrench with a hammer to kind of pull it out. and dont go cheap on the lube. i recommend; blaster, LPS, 711 or just wd40(in order from stongest to weakest)have fun also but dont damage the bolt cuz thats $60

i just did that last year. air hammer is the only way. i tried press. bent tabs. tried impact eventually bolt stoppped turning. i had to grind off bolt end and remove whole swingarm. then cut between motormount and swingarm then get bolt pressed out of motormount. i used helm enterprise replacement.

Find the biggest hammer you can get, it will come out.....if you destroy it, I have a solid one that is indestructable I can sale you. My father is a machinist, he makes them for me to sale. (alot cheaper than the baldwin or honda ripoffs)
