Missing CRF450 post?
#1
Wasn't there a post yesterday about the CRF450 quoteing a conversation with an R&D person from Honda about using oil and needing to be re-ringed after 10hrs?
It had the makings of a good debate. I can't find it today. Is it gone or am I going blind?

It was deleted much like the first one because a moderator thinks that it is getting out of hand. Don't understand why because I have seen many posts on here with words and phrases directed to others far more worse than those. I think that it's a conspiracy. [RE: KNOWITALL]
Back to the engine. I never said that the CRF450 did any of those things. Anyone who remembers my first post on the subject will remember that I was quoting what was told to me and a few dozen other guys at a Honda Tech Seminar. I could care less if what he said was true or not. I don't own a CRF and I don't know why such the big deal is made about it on an ATV Forum.
I posted it because there was a few guys talking about Honda possibly putting the engine in a quad. We were told about the problems Honda had encountered with the CRF engine and that no one should be looking for this engine to be put in a quad for those reasons. That was it.
I think alot of the debate is really over something I said a few months ago about the CRF being a sales flop. Well, it still is sales wise. Sure,..it looks like it's the best seller in the lineup because they are hard to find, but the reality is that they are hard to find because production of the bike was low volume for it's first year. Much like Yamaha did with the YZ400F in 1998.
So..there really isn't any debate at all except within Honda. Honda Tech says the CRF is prone to problems..........Honda R&D [according to Beerock69's pal] says they are not.
I don't own one so it doesn't matter to me personally. If it matters with you guys,..take it up on the dirtbike forums.
Pro400ex, we cater to the majority of the hare scramble racers in the South, including Florida. We have a few CRF's out there and have ran across no problems with thenm either.

Thats fine and dandy knowsalot, but why post it if its one of those "I heard from this dude". This is how uncalled for rumors start.
My friend at r&d is a very well respected racer and engineer(obviously, cuz he works for honda), I actually stumbled upon him at my donzi forum, (I have a 1972 18 ft Donzi classic speed boat with a ford 351w) I met him over there, he is a donzi fanatuc too(and a ford fan). After him schooling me on motor knowledge I wanted to know about him and his life. Obviously you cant let everyone on the net know you are a honda r&d guy. He didnt tell me right away but he did eventually.
He(my friend at r&D)wouldnt generalize it being a good motor, he knows when I ask something like that I am talking about all the particulars. after all A boat has to run tip top, or you can be dead in the water. Same deal with a quad but dead in the middle of no where. Lord knows we would rather be in the middle of no where then dead in the water. can you say life jacket?

Here we go again. This is probably the exact reason the previous post was deleted. You guys are not gonna agree on this issue....so let it rest. If you have nothing benefifial to add to the topic, then keep it to yourself.
We probably have members with a ton of info. concerning the 450f, but these people will never get to respond if the topic has to be deleted. THanks guys. Peace.

I havent answered that because it varies depending on how fresh you want the motor.
If you trail ride you may never change the rings
If you race and are on a tight budget yo could go a whole season on one set of rings.
If you race professional and have a big budget I would change the piston and rings every race.
I still think the pros do unnessecary (sp?) piston and ring changes.
ppe my but that crf is on its first year and it is highly detuned.
You can pull 90+hp out of that motor realistically, 100+ with a primo engine builder like sparks

I noticed theres always alot of flaming going on in this forum.

I guess this means I have to go back to watching TV.
I don't know why Honda doesn't take the old bulletproof XR600 motor and add the 50cc hop up kit, throw that in an extended 400ex frame. Well, its just a thought.
I would purchase a 650 based whatever from Honda, old 600 motor with hop kit or newer 650 motor.
I just don't think the 450 motor will happen. They never did a 2 stroke 500 either.
