400ex vs. Raptor (trail, jumping,)?
#1
I am looking into buying a new quad. My first choice was a 400ex, but am gonna wait on the z400 to see how it performs. But my question is this, I know that the raptor is faster top end, but that doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I believe it is up to the skill of the rider. Can a 400ex hold it's own on trail riding, jumping, or hill climbing? And how is it compared to the raptor? Or, is the Raptor just a better all around machine, and worth the extra money?

I own a 400EX and ride with Raptors in the woods alot
I'd have to say, that if I could do it all again, I'd buy a Raptor, reverse the front wheels and put 400EX tires on the rear for better stability, and put on a quiet-series pipe with a K&N jet kit... with those easy mods, a Raptor should be a contender no matter what type of riding you do.
But I still love my 400EX!!! it just feels right.... but I could always use more power and reverse. and, I got a great deal on it.... less than a year old 2000, hardly ridden, for $3,800

Text. I believe it is up to the skill of the rider. Your right before I purchased my first quad back in late 97 I used to ride only dirtbikes. I remember this guy who came with us and he had then a new 97 Recon and he was one heck of a rider and was keeping up with us dirtbike riders on the Recon. He was bouncing and bucking but he was always right on our butts.
Two years later I purchased a Recon and in the woods of southern Indiana I can now keep up with most anybody on anything except for the deep mud pits. Now when we get out on the rock roads our Raptor will just run away from us all. I am just saying I agree with you about skill.
I would get what ever you want but coming up you might be able to get a good deal On the 400EX and be able to keep up with anyone.
