I am thinking about trading my mint 01 400ex for a clean OLDER 300ex, warrior, wolverine, honda 300 4x4, or recon. The reason is I want two bikes, and I can't afford my 400 and an older, two stroke project bike. My question is, will I be able to still get a kick out of a 300ex, or other bikes that I have mentioned above? Are they seriously underpowered? I have even considered trading my 400 for an older Honda 300 4x4 so I will have something to ride in the winter. Am I going to be in for a serious power shock? Thanks for any opinions you can give me!

It would guess that if you got a smaller sport quad you would always be bored with power. Maybe if you go with a different type of quad like a 4x4 you won't be comparing it to the 400 all the time.

Depends on what kind of riding you like to do. I went from a Warrior to a King Quad. Serious drop in power and speed. But - I was doing mostly technical trail riding and exploring. The KQ was so much better suited for that, plus I could ride in colder weather without getting coated with water and mud, that I enjoyed it more than the Warrior. True, there were some days, on some trails that I wished I had a sport bike instead of a utility 4x4 but overall I wound up riding more withthe slower bike. I did upgrade to an Eiger this year to get both the 4x4 abilities and more sport.

Bottom line - If you are heavy into sport type 'go as fast as you can' riding, you'll probably be disappionted in anything smaller than your 400, since you're used to it. If you spend lots of time in the mud and on the rocks, you'll hardly miss it.

well the 4trx300 4wd would be a great choice since they were built from 88 till just a few years ago you can find one in your price range and it is the most dependable quad EVER!! in atv history the only draw back its underpowered and the shocks on it are a joke but the 300 will take a beating like crazy and if you want a good older sport quad you should look into getting a 250x there faster and lighter than the 300ex and you should beable to pick one up for 2000+ well i hope this helpped

Why don't you just trade it for a 250R? You'll be getting a two stroke and an increase in speed.

I HAVE A ROAD DOG THAT WENT FROM A RAPTOR TO A WARRIOR TO KEEP COSTS DOWN & TO KEEP FROM KILLING HIMSELF!( I THINK HE LACKS BASIC BRAIN FUNCTION)BUT ANYWAYS, I WOULD PROBABLY GO WITH A WARRIOR, THERE PRETTY DURABLE MACHINES AND IF YOU SHOP AROUND YOU CAN FIND PRETTY GOOD DEALS ON USED ONES.

Get a 250r or older banshee and then get a bayou 220 or recon. That should satisfy both your needs . Unless you absolutely need 4x4.
